It's an injustice that Robin Proper-Sheppard is not recognised as one of the musical greats of the last decade. With the God Machine and then with Sophia, he has produced a succession of quite brilliant albums. With People Are Like Seasons and even Sophia's debut, he moved away from the God Machine's ever-mutating tumult to produce acoustic music of heartbreaking grace and depth. The opening three tracks here are in the same vein: there's the unrequited, impatient love song "Oh My Love", the perfectly understated "Swept Back" and then "Fool", a song of such melancholy and warmth it recalls the Stones' Goat's Head Soup.
But then things change as "Desert Song No. 2" sees the sudden, triumphant return of God Machine rock (that band, of course, recorded the original "Desert Song"), storming oceanics with sweeping orchestras and an insistent piano, all of it teetering on the very edge of feedback. Now we have the menacing electronica of "Darkness" and the snotty garage rock of "If a Change Is Gonna Come" before Proper-Sheppard slips back into the solemn soulfulness we've come to expect from Sophia. Format:Audio CD
I read a few good reviews about Sophia - People Are Like Seasons last weekend, bought it on Monday, and it has hardly been out of my CD player since.
The album works very well in its entirety - ie play it from start to finish and you feel like you are listening to a masterpiece. There are certain tracks that I keep returning to, but none of them is a dud.
The recording is of great quality and the bass really grabs you. There's plenty of rock, acoustic guitar, country influence and great vocals. I totally recommend this album!!

I'm so glad I discovered after many years of listening to the two albums made by The God Machine, that Robin Proper-Sheppard went on to do similar things.
However, you cannot expect to buy something that sounds exactly like The God Machine (TGM) did.
He is massive talent of musicianship and he seems most of what made TGM.
For whatever reason this is a slightly new take on what he does best, which I am not saying that I am disappointed by.
In fact I find myself forgetting that I bought this album in the hope that it was more of TGM.
Perhaps I am glad that it isn't.
To me, this reminds me of at times, three bands. Joy Division, Brand New and The Jesus and Mary Chain.
All terrific bands, but Robin somehow seems to show that he can do styles like that better.
I now want to buy more Sophia albums.

Format:Audio CD
This is just a roughly review of this album. Since i am the God machine's fan for long time ago. All i can say is that this album is kind of mixture of 'Sophia' and 'The God machine' (even The May
Queens's side project) so you would not be disappointted with this album especially some songs that could be put in the new album for The God machine (if they still exist). The production and music
arrangement is getting better and better. Just buy it and watch out their step from now on !
