You get 35 felt tip pens and 5 highlighters.

I bought these because I had a similar set as a kid (now in my 40s) and one or two of them are still around! And you get a lot of colour choice for your money.

Colour Range: The range of blues, of greys & of red/pink/oranges is excellent, with a couple of light pinks/ buff/ browns that work well for a variety of global skintones. I feel that there's one tone jumped for purples, and the range of greens isn't very strong (there's more dark greens than light greens, could have done with one lighter than the emerald/grass green), so it's not as easy to have tonal colour schemes with those. That said, it is an excellent range of colours & tones overall and I'm really pleased with them.

Feel: The tips are quite 'hard' compared to the other set I own (Staedtler Triplus - 20 pens), but not scratchy. Even with good quality paper, the tips can 'rub up' the paper even on a single layer of colour whereas the Staedtler is more flowing. As someone else commented, it means you can't really do blending, you have to wait until the first colour is dry.

The other difference between them is that the Pentel has a finer tip so you can do thinner/smaller elements, whereas the Staedtler has a thicker tip (though Staedtler do a Fine Liner in their Triplus colours). The Steadtler Triplus tips softened quite quickly (giving a broader line), sooner than the Pentel have, so they'd be good for slightly heavy handed people (kids).

Pentel's nib size is than adequate for say Ed Sibbett's Celtic Design book, but for the more intricate designs in say, Arcturus' Vintage Colouring book, the Pentel nibs are a bit thick and you can't be too precise (but then maybe I should be using fine liners for those!

Pentel are a very good make. I bought two packs for the 11 years old budding artist. She loved them and has created some good work with them. They have lasted well and continue to function after a lot of use. They are really good value for money and will satisfy any young artist.
