**Praise for Pentecost**

"This book has elements that will appeal to all thriller fans - there's a bit of Indiana Jones, a bit of Wilbur Smith, a bit of Dan Brown and a lot of JF Penn and I have no hesitation in recommending it. It's a rollicking good read.."

"Penn hooked me immediately...PENTECOST is more than a fictional pleasure read; it is the stuff that movie producers drool over, keeping them up at night wondering why they hadn't thought of such an intriguing premise."

"The most awesome book I have read in a long time. A page turner from the beginning to the end."

WARNING:
J.F.Penn has a Masters in Theology from the University of Oxford but although the premise is based on verses from the Bible, this is not a specifically Christian book.

**More praise for Pentecost**

"Penn has a gift for describing the various cathedrals, basilicas, and lands that Morgan and Jake journey to, making the setting vibrant and alive throughout the book. Penn is also a master at weaving in religious information throughout the story that push the plot along. The pacing of the story is unparalleled ..."

"Mix history, fast-action and fiction together and you get Joanna Penn's debut novel, Pentecost. Each page prompts you to turn to the next one, making it difficult for you to put this book down. This thriller is set in the Christian history that most are familiar with, but takes a new look at it through the author's creative and intriguing fiction that is woven throughout the story."

"Intriguing, Dramatic, Suspenseful...these are the first words that come to mind when recalling Joanna's Pentecost. This book has been compared to Dan Brown and Indiana Jones. However, as I read it I was reminded of two of my favorite authors, Sidney Sheldon and Dean Koontz, despite the different genres they all write in."

If you love a fast-paced, rollicking read, download a sample or buy Pentecost now.

A fabulous romp 31 Jan 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
The comparisons with Dan Brown are obvious but this book brings in something incredibly fresh and new in this genre. One a new heroine and two a level of writing which is less earnest than others in this field. This is written as a fast-paced romp for mainly for reader enjoyment and fun - not to expose any mega conspiracy theory.

It is really well researched and I sense from the level of detail that the author has been to each location. Some great details for tourists of both the planet and the mind.

This book is a great achievement for a first time novelist and I can see the whole series emerging (and films). Looking forward to finding more about the characters and the psychological aspects of theology.

A Thumping Good Read 20 Jan 2011
By LynnJ
Format:Kindle Edition
If you enjoyed The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, then you really should read Pentecost, a novel by Joanna Penn published on 16th January in Kindle format. It is a page-turner that hooks you in from the very start.

At the heart of the novel is psychologist Morgan Sierra, who is looking for her sister and niece, and Jake Timber who works for ARKANE, a secret organisation run by the British Government. Hot on their tail is the mysterious Thanatos Company. For various reasons, all are searching for the stones left by the Apostles at the Pentecost two thousand years ago and held by Keepers. But the Keepers are being murdered and it seems a new Pentecost is being summoned by the powers of evil. Morgan has only ten days to find the stones and embarks on a journey that will take her to various parts of Europe, the Far East and America.

In tracing the journeys of the Apostles, the author gives an authenticity to the book which, in no way interrupts its flow. So, if you are looking for a fast-paced thriller, I would recommend this one.

Really?! 13 Sep 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm writing this review in an attempt to balance the books. I purchased this novel on the strength of other reviews and, in search of some light relief, looked forward to a fast paced, well written thriller. Yes - it's faced paced but to the extent that the author appears to put all their energy into pace and very little effort into any other aspect of novel writing; character development, believable dialogue, compelling description, etc.

The narrative lurches from one incredulous occurrence to another requiring the reader to grab onto its coat tails and enjoy the ride. Sadly, I didn't.

I found Pentecost clunky, cliche ridden and, in short, lazy. This book makes Dan Brown look like a literary master (I enjoy his novels before you jump to the wrong conclusions) and is only likely to provide any satisfaction if you find yourself subjected to a long delay in an airport or train station. Looking for a revalation in thriller writing? Look elsewhere.
