Pentax 18-55 WR 18 Sep 2010
Thanks Amazon for selling this lens to me in June 2010 for £75 incl. delivery to France, what a good deal. It arrived in a couple of days and performs very well; great handling thanks to light weight and fast focussing. Has low distortion, little flare, is very sharp at mid-apertures and still quite sharp at max aperture. The new price has soared but a few are available s/h for about £50. Highly recommended. Enjoy! Standard Kit Lens 2 May 2012
Although this is a good, quality lens from Pentax - it is to all intents and purposes on par with the K20D/K7/K5 kit, standard lens. It is hardly a prime lens?

On the plus side though, it is light, simplistic and totally ideal for 'Snapshots' whether basic landscape or simple, portrait creativity. A nice additon to your camera equipment - but only in elementary terms; as it is a good basic all rounder for a constrained budget. But nevertheless, I guess you could push the boat out a bit - as with the combined use of cheap extension tubes; you should be able to capture some really excellent macro shots in terms of close up photography?

If I was a beginner, I personally would not kick it out of bed; but on the minus side - for someone who already owns an array of prime lenses; then it is a totally, unnecessary purchase?

Pentax please (now owned by Ricoh) wake up and smell the coffee - and produce many more prime lenses as the availabilty out there is rather bleak for Pentax owners. Great cameras, highly underated, but not too many good lenses out there to attach to the body.

WR means moisture resistant, but Dist resistant is not listed 13 Nov 2009
By Kelvin Yee - Published on Amazon.com
Fairly sharp lens. Lens construction seems to have good tight fit.

Picture quality is good. There is enough detail to show off the 14 mpix of the K20d sensor.

"Shift focus" is kind of a nice feature.

When K20d/K10d is set in auto focus, and the shutter button is not pressed down, the lens can be focus manually by simply turning the focus ring. No need for push/pull of focus ring for manual focus like the Tokinas.

One draw back is the focus ring turns when auto-focusing. Must keep finger away until it is done auto-focusing.

(FYI, the Nikons SilentWaveMotor lens has the same "shift focus" feature, but the focus ring does not turn when auto-focusing.)

According to the manual, 'WR' lens feature moisture resistant, but 'dust resistant' is not listed as a feature.

DA* is listed as moisture and dust resistant. (this is only a WR, and not priced like a DA*)

Not shown in the photo is the red rubber ring at the lens mount which seal the lens mount assembly when installed on the SLR.

Worth the $$$.

Pentax DA 18-55 WR lens 20 July 2010

I bought this lens primarily to have a lens both smaller and lighter when traveling. This lens is highly rated, and I would concur. This lens can take advantage of the Pentax K7's distortion correction features. Because of this feature I regularly use this lens professionally for architectural photography. For a "kit" lens, this is one of the best.

Bought this lens 3 weeks ago and I am really pleased with it.
I actually replaced the old 18-55 kit lens Version I with this lens
and I can really see the difference in contrast and sharpness .. So much better.
Definitely a great lens for the price.
The lens arrived on time and in perfect condition from Amazon.

Pros: Lightweight, super sharp and contrasty and Weather resistant.
Cons: A bit slow f5.6 @ 55mm
