Firstly, a disclaimer: I haven't tested this camera underwater yet. It's Britain, it's November, that function will have to wait. I did find it a little disconcerting to read such a wide range of environmental `don'ts!' listed in the instruction and care leaflet (It doesn't like it hot, it doesn't like it cold. It doesn't like it humid, it doesn't like it dry). For an `all weathers' camera, supposedly waterproof to 12m, this didn't bode well. I have to assume this nonsense is all for legal reasons and not to be taken terribly seriously, because I've taken this camera on long, rugged walks, up rocks, through streams, through woods and across moors in the worst and wettest, wildest weather the North can throw at it and it's coped admirably.
It's a fine and sturdy little camera - considering the rubber-proofing around it and the number of functions, it really is small, not much bigger than an iphone, and fits neatly into an average pocket. It looks strong, designed for hard knocks in the outdoors. Mine has not been underwater yet, but it has been rained on HARD, and thrown no wobblers or hissy-fits, or done anything other than continue to function normally.
I found the instruction leaflet - as well as detailing get-outs for every conceivable eventuality (do not drop this camera into an active volcano. Do not drop this camera off the top of the Matterhorn - No, it doesn't quite say that, but it might as well have) is horrible to follow. Like most of its kind, it is densely impenetrable, massively over-detailed and, for the most part, unnecessary. The camera is very simple to use and the on-screen menus are self-evident; 30 minutes of trial and error told me pretty much all I needed to know.
Battery life seems good. I've taken it out on long, daily walks for the last two weeks and only had to charge it twice. Most importantly of all, the picture quality - video and still (from a purely amateur perspective) - is excellent. Good, big files that I can play with in photoshop and never worry about compromising quality. I can't wait to get it to warmer climes and really put it through its paces.
In short, a strong, waterproof, all-weathers camera that does the job and more, with great quality pictures every time. Highly recommended.
