This camera replaces the Pentax Optio LS1000 and continues the plain box like design with interchangeable covers. With that in mind it's probably aimed at the younger generation of users.
What's appealing about this camera?
It's cheap. I found the LS1500 for £[] delivered.
(Which means the LS1000 can be found even cheaper end-of-line)
Well, the LS1000 was very well received and reviewed. It punched above it's price in terms of quality. The LS1500 is no different. In fact, the discernible difference being the way you attach fascia to your camera.
Pictures look sharp and bright on the LCD screen. So the face detection focus is doing it's job well. I was very impressed with the flash on the camera. It gave a well exposed and evenly lit set of prints from 2ft-6ft beyond this the flash struggles and there is considerable fall-off - to be expected.
Outdoor / well-lit shots all look good from this camera - its well documented this camera likes to saturate the colours which can add a certain punch to images.
4x zoom - which is a kind of standard on digital compacts these days.
Continuing the fun theme are the filter effects. And it seems many a drab picture can spring to life when pushed through filters. There are a multitude of in-camera editting features as well.
Ultimate build and picture quality will never compete with prosumer or DSLR but this is not the point. What it does - it does well and you can't ask for more for your money.
