3 x Optical Zoom |
The Optio E90 features an advanced Face Detection AF & AE function, which automatically detects the subject’s face, then optimises the focus and exposure settings. It also comes equipped with the Smile Capture function, which detects a smile on the subject’s face and releases the shutter at the right moment all automatically.
3 x Optical zoom lens covering angles as wide as 31.5mm
The Optio E90 comes equipped with an optical 3X zoom lens covering focal lengths from approximately 31.5mm to 94.5mm (in the 35mm format). Its 31.5mm wide-angle coverage is particularly handy when in a confined space but photographing breathtaking landscapes, magnificent structures or group snapshots. Coupled with the Intelligent Zoom function, which allows even tighter zooming in on the subject without compromising image quality, the user can extend the zoom range to approximately 17.1 times.
Auto Picture mode for automatic selection of the ideal shooting mode
The Optio E90 features the PENTAX-original Auto Picture mode, which automatically and instantly selects one of eight shooting modes (Landscape, Portrait, Night Scene, Night Scene Portrait, Flower, Sport, Standard, and Candlelight) for a given subject or scene. Thanks to this user-friendly mode, the photographer can effortlessly capture beautiful, high-quality digital images of various subjects and scenes.

Comfortable, easy-to-hold grip
The Optio E90’s exterior has been treated with a non-slip rubber coating to prevent the camera from accidentally slipping out of the photographer’s hand. The right side of the front panel has also been slightly raised from the rest of the body to form a grip for a fatigue-free, firm and comfortable hold of the camera.
Green mode to assure easy push button shooting for beginners
With simple push button operation, the Optio E90’s user-friendly Green mode automatically selects the optimum combination of exposure settings, ISO sensitivity and other factors for a given subject or scene. This mode not only makes high-quality digital photography simple and effortless even for first-time digital photographers, but it also comes in handy when the photographer asks someone else to take his/her pictures, or when the user has simply lost track of camera settings.
Double anti-shake protection to prevent camera shake and subject shake in unfavourable conditions
1) High-Sensitivity anti-shake mode
When the Optio E90 detects low-lighting conditions in still-image shooting, it automatically raises the sensitivity to as high as ISO 1600, making it possible to use a higher shutter speed.

2) Movie SR mode
During movie recording, the Optio E90 prevents blurry images by digitally minimising annoying camera shake through the use of exclusive software.
Digital Panorama mode to compose extra-wide-perspective images
The Optio E90 features the creative Digital Panorama mode, which automatically creates a single panoramic picture from as many as three images. All the photographer has to do is follow simple instructions displayed on the LCD monitor and move the camera sideways (or up and down). This mode comes in extremely handy when shooting expansive subjects, such as spectacular landscapes or high-rise buildings, which cannot be captured in a single standard-format image.

This tidy little palm sized camera punches well above its weight. So here are ten good reasons to like it and want it!
The comfy rubber feel makes you feel confident that you are less likely to drop it. Great to have a zoom, telephoto and wide angle plus the bells and whistles even if you only use auto focus. On the computer/tv screen these are big pics, extremely good quality, most impressive. Perfect for blowing up to poster size etc. No fuss, pop it into your pocket for a beach walk, in a bag for a party; this non intimidatory camera will be your close companion. Using batteries is fine, you know where you are, no need to carry a charger on longer trips, just some spares. The print for T or W although little faint, you can soon familiarise yourself with the Pentax Optio E90's workings. When in use it is discreet, ready to record that special memory with no fuss or bother. No fiddling about to get the pics onto the computer, the lead just plugs straight in to the side of the camera, no flaps to unpick. An ideal choice for point and shooters but if you read the easy to understand manual you can extend your range bit by bit. Offered at a most reasonable price for a camera that could well justify a higher cost.

As a pentax DSLR user i recommended this to my partners 12 year old as he was after a camera with his birthday money, and i'm happy to say its a great little camera.
Really simple to use even for a complete begginer to photography, and loads of extra functions for people who want more out of a camera, like i say he's 12 and already making use of zooming, panoramic, macro and other functions without any problems at all. and with the green mode its even simpler, really is point and shoot.

Affordable good little camera,

I mainly use cameras during holidays or celebrations, so I don't really need a very fancy, expensive o professional digital one. I was a bit annoyed with previous experiences with other brands when paying almost 100 pounds the colours in the images don't appear properly, and then decided to go for this Pentax, for about half the price. I've found it very easy to use: the automatic mode makes sure that you get the right settings for your captions, and if you want to change it, it just take a second to get the night mode, landscape mode, etc. Colours are amazing, really vivid, when seeing the images in your computer. With a SD card you don't need to worry about having the proper slot in your computer, unlike with XD cards. Batteries last long enough for a couple of days using flash every so often and viewing the images that you've taken. I give 5 stars to Optio E90 in this range of cameras, the value for your money is great. It's nice to have a manufacturer like Pentax delivering cameras for people that don't really want to spend too much or that just want to keep quality photos without making things complicated for them.
