Good camera. 27 Nov 2011
By Nic
After much deliberation I finally decided to get a DSLR. I decided on this camera as I like taking photos at airshows and needed image stabilization and a high fps. This camera is excellent. Although it has less megapixels than others it has superb low light performance. I got very good portraits at iso 6400 with noise only being a small issue. It does not have a fold out screen unlike others but it is fairly easy to use and has lots of things you can do.

The image stabilization is built in to the sensor. It moves about inside the camera and you can hear it do this sometimes. This means that every lens is stabilized when its turned on but you can only see the effect in live view.

The clincher for choosing this camera though was the lenses. Being a K mount there are loads of old lenses available to buy and if you don't mind manual focus you can get some really cheep. I managed to get nearly all the lenses I wanted secondhand for under £80. That included an auto focus 70-300mm lens. Though you will have to read up on fitting old lenses as there is a menu option you have to turn on to make it work. Its the last option of the last menu. Why its there I don't know as it works exactly the same with modern lenses as when the option is turned on as off and just lets the camera work with old lenses. But if you want to play with lots of different lenses but not spend a fortune this is a brilliant camera.

The auto focus is very noisy as is the shutter action. I quite like it but unless its a really noisy environment you are not going to sneak unnoticed photos. But the focus is very fast which is good for me.

Images are really good and as I said the ability to get good high iso photos is excellent. Great for those natural light photos in dim rooms as I hate flash lighting.

The film mode is OK but this probably is not the camera for you if you are serious about filming with it.

The construction is small and compact for a DSLR. Its built slightly better then a high end super zoom camera. More than well enough to last for a long time with proper care.

For a new photographer I would recommend this camera. If you are not the type to exploit fold out screens and wish to be able to pick up an old cheep lens to experiment with then seriously consider this camera. It invites you to play and the excellent continuous shooting means you can capture lots of pictures to pick the one that looks just right.

Fantastic review 3 Jan 2012
By swimmer
This camera is a great camera for the person that knows what their doing.
Typically Pentax, with no-nonsense stainless steel construction and a solid
design, I know I am going to like using it. It is a pro's second quality camera
so you have to know your theory before getting one. Mine is a red one and it's
gorgeous. Pentax have kept everything no-nonsense. It is not overloaded with gimmicks
nor has any attempt been made to "dumb-down" any of the features.
Keep it in the studio as a professional second camera.
