PENTAX maximized the responsiveness of the Optio555 including reduced lag time so the camera is instantly ready when the power is turned on. In addition, a single touch of the playback button brings up recorded images and just a touch of the shutter button is all that is required to return to shooting. With enhanced operation capability and maximized responsiveness, the Optio555 allows satisfying shots to be taken with extreme ease. Add a powerful 5X optical zoom (4X digital zoom for a combined 20X total zoom), and the superb clarity of 5.0 effective megapixels, the Optio555 offers extreme versatility with superb detail and accuracy.
The Optio555 includes an ACDSee software package designed exclusively for PENTAX Optio digital cameras that includes ACDSee 5.0. Valued at more than $150, the ACDSee(TM) digital camera software makes it easy to retrieve, view, manage, print, enhance and share your digital photos. The Optio555 will ship with the software in October in plenty of time for the Holiday 2003 buying season.
The Optio555 also features PictBridge compatibility that eliminates the need for PC connectivity during printing by allowing the camera to be connected directly to a compatible printer. This feature allows direct control over printing and a full range of other functions.

Compact and feature loaded!! - BUY IT,

I got my optio 555 a few weeks ago and I've taken over 300 photos since. It's much smaller than I had expected but not too small to be tricky to use. Pros: >>It has a HUGE range of manual options. >>It is small but feels very solid. >>Great photos (well exposed etc. on Auto mode) >>Included software is excellent - ACDSee. >>Battery lasts for AGES....I read in another review that tested the camera that it will last 400 shots. >>Relatively cheap when you consider it has all the features and performance to satisy the most demanding of amateur or professional photographers. >>The above reasons and loads more...... Cons: Overall, great camera with a wealth of manual options for the enthusiast and excellent results from the Auto settings for the amateur. It has also fixed all the problems with the Optio 550 - speed etc. I really recommend this camera. Other cameras may equal it's performance in some areas but it is unmatched in overall performance and quality. Hope this helps.

This is a great price for an amazing camera. I bought mine a month ago and the pictures I've taken just on the Auto setting have been great. I orginally bought a Nikon Coolpix 3700 with 3MP, 3 x Optical Zoom and it was a good camera, small enough to take anywhere. However, when a friend of mine showed me his Pentax 450 with 4MP and 5 x Optical Zoom, I knew I wanted something better than my Nikon so I returned it. The Pentax Optio range are so well built, they feel solid and built to last with a metal casing and controls. When spending this amount of money, camera's should be built this well with a metal casing, not those flimsy plastic ones. This is how a camera should be made, and the features are too many to list. Outstanding build quality and performance. The Optio 555 has 5MP giving outstanding quality even at A3 size prints, and the zoom is a great thing to have and beats the other small compact cameras easily.I can't recommend this camera enough, but you really need to think about what you want and how much you want to spend. Maybe go and hold a few cameras, try a few in a camera shop because what feels nice for one person might feel really awkward for the next. Any Pentax, Nikon or Canon camera is going to be of good quality, but for me it was worth paying a bit more for this Optio 555 and the 5MP. I'm sure 3MP is fine for most people with affordable prices, but if you're prepared to pay a bit more for a small, compact, well built 5MP camera with lots of functions, manual control and the flexibility to print A3 size images if you ever want to, then this is your camera. You won't be disappointed!

Look no further if you are looking for the optimum combination of compactness, performance and build quality. You can use this camera for anything from snaps to landscapes. Images are sharp and natural and there are loads of manual options allowing you to be as creative as you want. I'm not aware of any other digital camera which offers a 5 x optical zoom and 5 megapixels in such a well built, compact body. Notable strengths are: high quality lens, long battery life, virtually no image noise - nightime/low light performance is so good you can almost dispense with the flash. This will be a classic.
