The XCF series of porro-prism binoculars all feature fast objective lens diameters of 40 or 50mm. Their multi-coated optical elements offer exceptional optical performance, and a fashionable black-finish body encased in a full-body rubber housing means excellent viewing comfort protection form dirt and bumps. The XCF range offers many of the features of more expensive binoculars, with the added benefit of exceptional value. The XCF range is ruggedly styled with full rubber housing, including the extra large central focusing wheel. They all feature exceptional optical performance including high quality BaK4 prisms.
Edge-to-edge sharpness is a vital element to comfortable viewing. To achieve this we utilise aspherical lens elements in our eyepieces. This is a specially shaped lens design that reduces aberration to a minimum.
The compact design offers you comfort in handling with perfect weight balance.
Experience the ease of use with a large, easy grip focus knob, combined with smart ergonomic design, a smooth rubberised cover and light-weight construction you will be assured comfortable viewing during extended observation periods.

The design is sturdy, and the rubber coating on the main body makes it very comfortable to hold. The central focus wheel is easy to reach and operate.
The focus wheel, barrel adjustments and dioptic adjustment are smooth and have a constant resistance. However, the dioptic adjustment on the right eyepiece has narrow limits, so if you have eyes with a large (greater than 2 diopters) difference in strength between them there may be some eye strain. The rubber hoods over the eyepieces fold back to allow glasses wearers to get their eyes closer to the lens.
I could detect no twisting between the barrels, or rocking motion of the eyepieces.
I was disappointed that the case which it came with was made out of a soft plastic, and not rigid which would offer more protection against occasional knocks and bumps. The case has no strap, although the strap from the binoculars can be threaded through the sides of the case opening.
The exit pupil diameter is large, with only slight blockage from the prisms which is not noticeable unless you look for it.
The field of view is wide and bright, with no discernible distortion of the image across the lenses. I did notice some chromatic aberration which is most marked when viewing sharp edges against a bright background. However, this effect occurs from less than half the field of view from the edge of the lens.
Amazon packaged this well, and it came very quickly. I would recommend the Pentax 12x50 XCF binoculars for both astronomical and daytime use.
