Product Description

Binocular Overview

The PCF WP series are characterised by their inner-focusing design developed by PENTAX, so size and weight are greatly reduced. The body housings are rubber-coated and waterproof to a depth of 1 meter and since they are nitrogen filled there is no need for worry if there are any sudden variations in temperature. These binoculars are designed to withstand the rigors of even the harshest of environments. All models of the PCF WP series have an eye point relief, of at least 19mm so that eye glass wearers can benefit from the full field of view and even the eye-piece ring can be folded back for added convenience. Additionally, all models offer a precise diopter adjust to match the eye sight of most users. This binocular was created for heavy duty applications. The rubber armoured waterproof body withstands weather, dust or rough impact. Add high imaging capability and you have a binocular that will accompany you to the extremes, on land or on water.

Aspherical Eye-Piece Elements

Edge-to-edge sharpness is a vital element to comfortable viewing. To achieve this we utilise aspherical lens elements in our eyepieces. This is a specially shaped lens design that reduces aberration to a minimum.

High Quality BaK4 Prism

A prism is a complex optical element necessary to correct the image the right way up and reduce overall length of the binocular. In a prism, light travels through complicated angles and so the quality of the prism glass used is of significant importance. PENTAX uses exclusively high-index BaK4 prisms, made of very pure Barium glass.

Large Focus Wheel

Large Central Focus Knob with Locking System

Experience the ease of use with an extra large, easy grip focus knob combined with smart ergonomic design, a smooth rubberised cover and rubberised construction you will be assured comfortable viewing during extended observation periods.

3 Stop Twist-Up Eyecups

The binoculars have large, multi-stop, twist-up eyecups that can easily be adjusted to your desired position. They can be fixed in 3 positions, depending on the binocular model. Combined with a large-diameter eyepiece (ocular lens) and comfortable eye-relief, it allows any user, even those wearing spectacles, to find a comfortable setting.

These are excellent binoculars for both day and night viewing, especially astronomy. The field of view is slightly narrower than other 12x50 binoculars, however images are sharp almost right the way across the FOV. Build quality is excellent.

I really only have two minor niggles: the soft carrying case could do with a strap and the lens covers come off too easily when sliding the binoculars in and out of their case.

I bought a pair of pentax 20x60 pcf wp ll binos 2 years ago, weight(1.4kg) and the length(about 23cm),holding it up for any length of time required practice and the breathing technique of a sniper. So i bought a monopod which was a great improvement.Till the day the binoculars took a knock (while still in the bag!) on the left occular which started the problems.Screwing out the eye cover was difficult,Which resulted in breaking the connecting bridge to the right occular, resulting in the left occular not going in with the right one,and are also offset. So i sent it of for a repair quote,Original price 200euros,cost of repair 320euros!!!!.
So to cut a long story short i decided to go for the 12x50.
+ it weighs 1kg not 1.4(makes a lot of difference)
+its shorter 18cm not 23cm(you dont need to take a monopod with you )
+better field of view(the 20x60 is like looking through 2x1ft drainpipes, you have trouble finding objects that are closer.)
+optics are very good

- I would say the bag it comes in.For the 20x60 i would say DEFINATLEY the bag it comes in!,
but as the 12x50 is smaller ,it is more protected and you can fold the bag and put it in your pocket.
Less weight means less chance of damage.
The amazon price here in germany was 232 for 20x60
222 for 12x50
So went over to Amazon u.k.,the 20x60 was about the same,The 12x50 i got for 142plus P+P
The 10x50 was more than 12x50(how does that work out????).
So i am a very happy chappy!

I had been looking for binoculars for general use and astronomy. Look at a constellation with 10 stars to the naked eye and then there's hundreds! The crispness of the image was stunning, in all conditions from dull to bright sunlight, with light transmission excellent and minimal obvious internal reflections even looking towards a source of light. These feel incredibly good in your hands. They have slight ergonomic depressions as though someone squeezed their hands into them so hard it left a slight imprint. The Pentax uses a flatter lens system which effectively makes all of the field of view you see very sharp.

I bought the Pentax PCF WPII 10x50 binoculars back in 2011 to replace my old Charles Frank 10x50’s that were inherited and I believe date back to the 1950's. I mainly use binoculars for astronomy and was finding my old ones were just not up to the job. It's taken me a while to get down to posting a review but wanted to try and do a thorough job and carry out some extended testing.

I have no particular expertise about binoculars or optics although did read a fair bit before deciding which binoculars to purchase. I am very much a casual observer when it comes to astronomy and like the grab and go ability that binoculars offer. So after reading numerous reviews I decided on the Pentax PCF WPII 10x50’s. The PCF stands for Porro Centre Focus and the WP for Water Proof. Porro being the type of prisms used and centre focus meaning they have a centre focus ring that adjusts the focus of both eyepieces at the same time.

The first thing you notice about the Pentax PCF WPII’s is the way they look which I personally think is great and it gets better when you pick them up because the ergonomics are also excellent. The binoculars are rubber coated and feel very well made. Pentax must be confident about their build quality as they came with a 30 year guarantee and the binoculars certainly feel like they will last a lifetime. I was slightly apprehensive about them being made in China before I got them but had no need to worry as they have been manufactured to a high standard and have a guarantee to back that up.

They weigh in at 1030 grams just over 1kg in weight. I think these are at about the limit of what I would want to hand hold for more than a few minutes.

As you would expect from Pentax the build quality of these binoculars is excellent. Good design ergonomics and the high quality of the materials used give these binoculars a very solid but comfortable feel and stable handling.
The 'case' provided is really just a cover - it works well enough but for complete protection I invested in a Swarovski Field Bag.
The lens caps are a loose fit and the single eyepiece cover is a bit of a bodge job - it only fits properly when the eyepiece separation is at maximum and even then it's loose - but again it is adequate and neither the lens caps or eyepiece cover are really needed if using the 'case'.
In use the binoculars are sharp and bright, there is some noticeable magenta/green chromatic aberration when viewing far distance subjects but this is limited to high contrast conditions.
As a pro photographer with a live long passion and loyalty for all things Pentax these binoculars don't disappoint. The rather dubious 'case' is in line with the current Pentax policy of providing 'soft covers' for their optics rather than protective hard cases.
I have given this product an overall rating of 4 but with the exception of the 'case and lens caps issue' this is an excellent '5 star' value for money product.
