One is married and widowed within five years. She is free to start again. Or is she? The second has a perfect husband she thinks she loves. He becomes a grotesque parody of what he once was. Is that love real? The third becomes trapped in a nightmare marriage. Can the war free her? --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Riviting read!! 14 April 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This book really brings to life the war years for me. It covers the lives of 3 women during the war and the various problems they face. Their main problem being how they change through the war with the growing independance of women througout England. This is contested by their husbands who had obediant wives when they went to war and return to find strong and independant women in their place. It brings home to me how fortunate I am growing up as a young female in todays society.

A gripping novel that opens horizons and teaches us that we can be more than we are trained to be.

Not having read any books by Penny Vincenzi, I was not sure witch one to get first. So I decided on Forbidden Places and I am glad that I did. This was great book. All of Ms. Vincenzi's characters are rich and engaging. Even though the 600+ pages, Ms. Vincenzi keeps the action going and does not let the reader get bored. If you have never read Penny Vincenzi, try Forbidden Places I know you won't be disappointed!

This is one of those books you simply can't put down once you've started. Fascinating story set in wartime England - so realistic, with wonderful insight into living at the time. Lots of twists. Only the end was disappointing.

Another page-turner from Penny!
I only discovered PV a few years ago, and I think she's probably my fave writer out there. Apart from the dreadful Sheer Abandon, everything I've read from her has been fantastic. Read more
