A fantastic introduction to yoga,
By lollytinker@hotmail.com (London, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Penny Smith's Essential Guide to Yoga [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a fantastic introduction to anyone hoping to start practising yoga for the first time. As a complete beginner I found it easy to follow and was delighted to be able to keep up! The video/DVD gently takes you through a series of yoga positions including standing and sitting postures, shoulder balance, spinal twists and the Sun Salutation which can then be put together to provide a complete work out. I really like to way the video provides ideas for adapting these poses to specific needs and abilities and think that the list of health benefits and cautions is useful. A great video to get you started.

Penny Smith's Essential Guide to Yoga,
By Frances "Frances" (Burnley, Lancs United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Penny Smith's Essential Guide To Yoga With Howard Napper [DVD] [2001] (DVD)
As a person who has practised Yoga over the last 18 months from classes and DVD's, I found that this DVD stuck to the original principles of Yoga. It went at a slow but steady pace through the postures, describing these in detail with breathing instructions, so that they could easily be followed without having to try to watch the screen all the time. In between postures there were explanations as to the benefits of each movement, but this did not interfere with the practice. Relaxation was also included, this is missed out of many DVD's on yoga these days and is an important part of the practice. I would recommend this as an excellent Yoga class for all levels.

Disappointing,
By A Customer
This review is from: Penny Smith's Essential Guide to Yoga [VHS] (VHS Tape)
We were very disappointed with this video. It doesn't explain each move clearly, they just appear in them without telling you how to get there! The man is very annoying wiggling his fingers all the time. His voice is quiet, which would be a good thing if it wasn't for the sea in the background. It would be better if Penny explained the benefits of each move before we do them rather than after. Barbara Currie is much better!!!
