I really enjoyed reading about Pennington's exciting adventures, with his friends and in his rickety sailing boat. It was also exciting the time he borrowed father's motorbike, to make a mad rush into shool before he's too late for something extremely important. This story has some wonderfully written characters in it, who are very realistic and larger than life. They seem very lifelike and the story is rather involving. It makes you want to keep on turning the pages, right the way through. The storyline about pennington's piano lessons with his pushy teacher is inspiring and the outcome teaches a good lesson about hard work paying off. It also shows a kind of transition from boyhood to manhood. The story also possesses a kind of message that says that things don't allways turn out how you expected, but that's not allways a bad thing! Untill reading the other reviews here i didn't know that there were sequels following this book, but i may have to read them now!
