About the Author

Compiled by David Crystal - the respected linguist, academic and author - this Penguin Pocket of Quotations is everything you would want and expect from a quotations book; short, sweet and packed full with little gems.

Starting with Crystal's thoughtful preface before proceeding to the quotations itself - which begin with Peter Abelard's "We do not easily suspect evil of those whom we love most" and ending with Emile Zola's "J'accuse" - the book also has a useful index at the back.

Comparable to the Concise Oxford Dictionary of Quotations but arguably simpler in format (and thus even more accessible) this is a dictionary that would prove useful to anyone wishing to have a cornucopia of historical and contempory words of wisdom at their fingertips.
