Just Buy It. 12 Feb 2011
Format:Paperback
A fantastic pocket-sized list of the best of the best of modern writing; listed alphabetically both by author and title. (And the Mini Modern Classics section at the back of the book is great for novella fans such as myself!) Completing all this is an essay on Modern Classics by Italo Calvino, giving as many different definitions and perspectives as needed.

A must-buy for anyone wishing to be better-read, and at one pound it's a bargain!

Great Little List 4 April 2011
By Maddie
Format:Paperback
This is a really useful little book. Not much needs to be said about it, as it basically does what it says on the tin. It's a nice, compact little book that lists all the Penguin Modern Classics, first alphabetically by author, then by title. The article by Italo Calvino is very interesting, and I think it's a nice touch that it was included.

Obviously the price is excellent, so the book makes a great little buy for whatever reason you may have. Personally one of my aims in life is to try and read all the Penguin Modern Classics, so this book is like a little to-do list for me, but I think it would be useful to any avid reader or book collector.

As I mentioned, it's nice and compact, by which I mean small (around 16cm by 11cm) so it can fit in a handbag or even, at a push, a pocket, always convenient.

I hadn't realised when I purchased it, but this book is actually very up-to-date. Some books listed in it are marked as being 'forthcoming' after March 2011, so not only is it up-to-date, but it will also continue to be for a little while, by including future releases.

All this adds up to making a very useful book. It's not a book you buy to read, as such, as it is essentially a list, but it's certainly one worth having on the shelf, and I shall be keeping an eye out for a list of the Penguin Popular Classics too.
