Product Description
Formally inaugurated in Potsdam in 1933, the Third Reich was regarded by Hitler as the greatest in a line of mighty German empires. His mystical belief that this empire would last a 1000 years proved unfounded, but not before a world war which resulted in the loss of at least 60 million lives. This atlas charts the rise and fall of Hitler's Nazi state, from the first mass meeting of the NSDAP in Munich in 1920, through the relentless territorial aggression and anti-Jewish atrocities of World War II, to the execution of war criminals in Nuremburg in 1946. It offers insights into the seemingly inexorable rise of National Socialism and examines the nature of Hitler's power structures both within his party and within Germany as a whole.

If you want to know about the hows and whys of the Thousand-Year Reich, this is the book for you. Not merely an atlas, it uses charts and brief explanatory articles to detail all kinds of information, from Nazi voting patterns to firestorm damage at Wuppertal to Hitler's postwar plans for a subjugated europe. The text is clear and informative, and the maps are well-drawn and packed with information. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in Germany, the Third Reich period, and World War Two in Europe, as well as to anyone who wants to know how Europe was shaped by the war.

This book examines an era we regret in every aspect. Full of important data and photographs, it carefully gives enough information for all variety of reader. To an expert some very detailed information, a relatively beginner a complete picture about the Nazi era.
