In 2007, he won the Golden Duck Award for Excellence in Science Fiction for his work on "Night of the Homework Zombies" by Scott Nickel. Harpster visits schools all over the Midwest in person and also does live online school "visits" both nationally and internationally using Adobe Connect. Harpster lives in Cincinnati, OH with his wife, son and two dogs.

I love horses and I am a rider. I got this book because I wanted to get better at drawing them. When you draw a horse in this book, what happens is they tell you to draw things (they put an example in the book)for example, they might draw a body of a horse in the book, and you have to draw that on your paper. Then, slowly, they put in details and your body looks more like a horse. (Sometimes, you do have to erase, so I suggest using a pencil with an eraser.) Sometimes, though, the things you need to draw are really hard. This part I don't like about the book. They expect you to draw some perfectly squiggled or jagged line. It doesn't come out as good if it's not the same. But the horses that are the finished product are really beautiful. Sometimes, what I do, is use some tracing paper and just trace over everything it has. What comes out then is really pretty. (They also use color on the finished product to give you some ideas on how to color it.) All in all, I think this is a great book for people who are pretty good at drawing and love horses.
