Product Description

Effective protection and best comfort are the hallmarks of Optime lll. Developed for use in extremely noisy environments, the protection is based on technology that minimises resonance in the holder casings. This results in maximum high-frequency muffling, while at the same time it is easy to understand speech and signals.

These are brilliant and have transformed my life. I have Asperger's Syndrome and am very sensitive to loud noises, particularly engine noises and anything high pitched. I can put these on and they make it possible to get through all sorts of environments without having a panic attack. Highly recommended for anyone on the spectrum who has problems with loud noises.

These defenders are the most comfortable yet, tight but soft, and even mute the sounds of the site radio!
I've had a set of Optime II for many years which seemed good, but these are definitely a calibre above.
They also come in several version of head bands which was not evident in the listing.

Exceptional product. Took me about two days to get used to the 'feeling' of wearing the device. Now, a week later, I am hooked. The busy neighbourhood I live in (stupid dogs barking, kids screaming and cars racing down the road) has become blissfully silent. I can study on my PC, read, write and concentrate. Ideally people would learn to curb their selfish habits, but in the meantime, these will do nicely. It's like an extra layer of double glazing . Perfect!

Bought for a friend who was getting worn down by lack of sleep. Undergraduate scientist in a hall of residence mostly inhabited by English and history students who only have 5 hours of timetabled lectures a week so choose to party all night and most of the day. She says it transformed her nights and her studies - can now actually get to sleep at night and concentrate on study during the day. Only problem is she can't hear her bedside alarm when it goes off in the morning.

I tried them for a while before sending them on. On the plus side:
* Best noise reduction of any ear defenders I have ever tried - and over many years I have tried a lot
On the minus side:
* The ear cups are *big*
* They clamp your head very firmly. But I guess they have to do that to be so effective at noise reduction. (The firm pressure with which they grip your head also means there is no way these are going to slip - the reviewer who said they 'keep popping off' must have been talking about something other than these ear defenders)

Worth remembering that these still don't totally stop all noises - even the brick walls of a house can't do that. But they do reduce noise more than any other ear defenders I know. And if you wanted to be totally extreme, you could wear ear plugs under them (the Howard Leight Laser Lite are the best of the bunch).

And very well. Use them for hearing protection in an environment where noise levels can peak around 145dbA.

Highly effective

For general lengthy exposure to dangerous sound levels these things are great!

For anyone looking for 'silence' ANY ear defender will be unsuitable - the whole point of an ear defender is that it stops the noise which is dangerous and damaging to your ears. Many ear defenders maintain the ability to communicate with those around you, so if you're having trouble sleeping from a snoring partner or noisy neighbours, or you just want quiet where people are talking, this isn't the way to go about getting it. These are designed to allow a level of speech volume through.

These ear defenders are great for anyone working in loud environments. I was working around a lot of grinders and general loud machinery and often going home with ringing in my ears. Using general ear plugs was ok, but they can be a bit of a nuiscance putting them in and taking them out all the time, just pop these on and you get instant ear safety. Speech gets through well, slightly muffled but audible enough for basic communication most of the time.

One downside is that they do stick out quite a way from the side of your head (about 90-100mm) so if you're working in tight spaces, they may bang on a few things. If you only need general protection from machinery you may be alright with a cheaper slimmer pair, but having damaged my ears in the past and knowing that all ear damage is irreversible I tend to think that you can't be protected enough when it comes to ears and eyes.

For me they've been very comfortable for long periods of time.

I am using the ear muffs for to silence the main street directly in front of my apartment.
This ear muffs do nearly 100% silence the noise from all those cars and lorries.
Only the deep sound of those muscle cars are still audible.

But If I combine this muffs with some earplugs I can silence the street noise completely.
Or better I use this muffs with my in-ear headset. So I can listen to my music and even hear the fines nuance of my beloved Beethoven music.

One point of advice to all those "I don't want to hear anything" guys out there.
This goal isn't feasable with this muffs. This muffs are designed to filter loud noise but still let you hear normal speech.
While I am typing this review I can still hear the clicking of my keyboard and mouse.
Even the lovely voice of my partner still reaches me.

I personally do like it this way.
I do not want to get cut off from the outside. I just want to have an bit more silence than the modern world is willing to give me.
