Product Description

Product Description

With Peltor Radio Ear Defenders, you can protect your hearing effectively and listen to the radio or your MP3 player at the same time. This is a great piece of kit for those that spend long periods in a workshop or factory, operate noisy machinery, drive a tractor or ride-on lawnmower, or pursue noisy leisure activities.

Ear Defenders consist of rigid cups with soft plastic cushions that seal around the ears to reduce noise. Comfortable and easy to use, they are a popular choice of hearing protection and are suitable both for short tasks and for longer term wear. The wide sealing cushions are filled with a unique combination of fluid and foam, which gives optimum sealing without putting too much pressure at the point of contact with the user’s head. The ear cups are low profile but have generous space inside: this allows the ears to ‘breathe’ and means that the ear defenders can be worn comfortably for longer. Peltor FM-Radio Ear Defenders incorporate a FM radio with superior audio performance.

This pack contains one pair of wine red Peltor FM-Radio Ear Defenders on a black headband. The headband is adjustable in order to achieve a good seal and comfortable fit for each user. Attenuation: 32dB SNR.

Peltor is a trademark of 3M Company.

Box Contains

1 x pair of red ear defenders on an adjustable black headband
2 x AAA size batteries

3.0 out of 5 stars Do the job. 28 Jun 2010
By A buyer
They are good, stereo, block out noise etc, stereo line in. The line in is at full volume with just the unit turned on, if you turn up further now you are adjusting the volume for the built in radio (the audio mixes together). The units will reach an acceptable volume without distortion, even if you use ear plugs as well and the sound is of adequate quality. You must have batteries in to use the line in. The foam inserts made my ears itch but behind them is all the circuitry. I removed them anyway and the unit stil worked. However, when paying 87 for what is basically a pair of headphones, you want something special right? Well these Peltors just don't deliver that, there's corners cut all over the place in design and finishing and they feel cheap. They do the job and are the cheapest around, but value for money wise, they are very poor. But I love them because they work. I'd of been happy paying 50 for them. 3M/Peltor/trade must be making a hefty profit. 3 out of 5.

Peltor FM-Radio Ear Defenders HRXS7A-01
The reasons I picked this modal over the others.

1. higher db rating than others (CE certified)
2. peltor comfort head band suitable for 12hr work days (they come with the foam pads but as there changeable you can fit the fluid filled ones)
3. single head band (some other types have an extra band to take the wire)
4. short antenna with high reception sensitivity suitable for forestry workers.
5. dial for volume and sensitive dial for stations (this is a superior set up)
6. mp3 cable included (standard jack fits my phone)
7. 140 hrs with the cheapest batteries. 200 hours with good ones (other types don't come close)
8. FM stereo receiver that auto drops to mono if needed

I work in a factory and everyone wears ear defenders of all brands.I work shift which means 12 hour days.
we use cnc and grinding wheals all day ear protection is mandatory Ive used other types and have decided to buy this model after the head band on my last pair broke my fault so I wont say what brand they where. My experience has though me this
1. you will not use AM radio. So dump it for FM stereo instead
2. you can not see a Dial if your wearing them and you get to know the stations anyway.
3. preset button for radio station tuning in digital is good but if the signal is weak a Dial is the only way to finely tune in a signal buttons cant beat it.

Anyway when you get the product in post and open the box they do look a bit cheap. The thing is they all do. On close examination all the parts are good quality and sturdy except for the hinge of the battery case not great quality so they lose a star there. so if you take care when changing the batteries which you wont have to do very often Its OK.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable and effective 18 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase
I can wear these for hours, if necessary, and they have sufficiently compliant seals to close around the side arms of my glasses. I wear frames with thin metal arms when using ear defenders - thick plastic would lift the seals away from your head. I can hear what is going on around me, but the damaging high frequency from diamond discs and hammer drills is drastically reduced. The radio quality is quite good, but it receives only the stronger local signals, plus BBC.
I'm going to make use of its jack input by sticking a very small mp3 player on with velcro dots - I don't want a wire running down into a pocket. The finish and design looks cheap, but I have some normal Peltor defenders that have given years of service, so I hope these will be as good. At this price though, I think they should have an mp3 player built in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb.!! 1 Mar 2014

I bought these for my son and was amazed with the sound quality and the reception is brilliant. Cuts out all noise so great for protecting his hearing and gets to enjoy his music whilst working with very noisy machinery. As well as the built in radio you can link the headphones to your smartphone so you get a lot for your money. We would totally recommend these ear defenders.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but a bit pricey. 4 July 2013

Robust build quality and comfortable. The station and volume controls are on the right headphone and are convenient and easy to use. The sound quality is pretty much what you would expect from FM transmission, with a low but audible background hiss. No base or treble controls, but with digital connectivity you can have your phone's EQ and all your MP3's and digital radio. I would have been happier paying around 50, but they are good headphones with good sound insulation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good but a tad expensive. 29 Jun 2013

I was looking for some headphones / ear defenders to use whilst on my sit on mower.. After much research I chose these and would recommend for the following reasons: peltor are a quality brand ( I have used then whilst shooting etc); the fit is very good being snug but not uncomfortably tight; sound quality of the FM radio is very good all things considered; the MP3 input lead is supplied and works very well. Battery life so far seems pretty good. They seem to do what they are designed for. Would be 5 star if they were a bit cheaper.
