It arrived promptly and is easy to set up. The pulse rate monitor works by placing a finger on a sensor. It is a bit fiddly and requires getting used to know how much pressure to put on it. However I have measured my rate with this and by traditional methods and it is accurate. The calories tracking monitor works by starting it off (say when you start a run/cycle ride) then stopping it at the end of the exercise period. You then enter you heart rate and it calculates how many calories you have burned (based of other factors you have entered when setting up the watch - age, sex & weight). I can't say this is particularly useful and I'm not sure how accurate it is. Obviously it is based on doing exercise at a constant rate, which of course isn't always the case (for example hills when you go running). Also in the seconds it takes to measure your heart rate, which will go down, especially if you can't get it to work first time.
That said, it is an attractive watch which does the basics and for the price you can't go wrong!
