My daughter has had trouble in the third grade with her handwriting, so for Christmas I purchased this pen. My thought process was that making handwriting a special event with a special pen would merit more time spent on the activity. The results have exceeded my expectations.
When I gave it to her, I explained the importance of taking really good care of the pen. I told her that it wasn't like the other pens she had used and she needed to be very careful not to drop it or just let it rattle around. She has done so well that at any given moment, she knows where the pen is at and surprised me yesterday when she brought it over explaining that it had fallen to the ground. She wanted to know if it was okay, which aside from a few drops of splattered ink, it was.
In terms of the pen itself, it is a very smooth writer. The nib is a bit wider than I personally prefer, a solid medium when I prefer a fine to very fine writing instruments. I have to say though that the durability just seems there on this slightly springy tip. When I write, I like my pens to write wet which this certainly does without blobbing or leaking. That's a testament to both the point and the type of ink put through the pen.
The barrel plastic seems plenty durable and thick. The cap is a click cap as opposed to a screw on, but I wouldn't let that dissuade anyone from purchase. The end of the cap provides a nice cushioned seal.
You can't really tell by looking that it's going to fit the hand as well as it does. I am a fairly typical adult with average sized hands and it works well for me. My eight year old daughter also finds the pen to be a good fit. The overall shape is just right for a range of writers.
Just yesterday I had to refill the pen for the first time. I used the Noodler's Polar Black which flows very well through this pen. <offtopic>If you've not tried the Noodler's inks, you really should, great stuff at a fantaastic price point</offtopic>. The refillable cartridge is inexpensive and makes the pen a worthy keeper.
