A strong debut from Exeter based James Lusby.
'Pelican Hill' has been cleverly produced to create a diverse listening experience.
James had previously played in bands but felt it was time to go solo as he could have full creative control over his songs and his sound. James performs, writes and records his own music and has performed live at venues across the country.
The title track 'Pelican Hill', begins with a dance vibe then smashes into a big stage anthem of guitars and drums with the chorus ringing 'Take me away, take me away!'. Definitely one for the air guitar.
Other stand out tracks include body rocking 'Start Again', 'Poetic Justice' (which sounds like an intense version of Keane's 'Is it any wonder') and the uplifting and jazzy 'Fear of Loneliness' which will have you 'oooo'ing' along.
His diverse sound also has hints of Snow Patrol and Jeff Buckley and he demonstrates his musical creativity with some hypnotic instrumental solos. There are no 'filler' tracks on this record; each track has a unique presence and purpose.
It is truly one album that should be listened to in its entirety every time.
