Like new both the disc and outer case. All checked playing perfectly. Couple of minor surface markings. Nothing major.

Sublime Musicmaking 22 Jun 2008

I bought this when released in vinyl and was unaware that it was available on CD until now. Absolutely none of the first class competition, in my view, matches this recording for beauty and atmosphere. 'Solviegs Song' in particular is wonderfully serene and moving.

This marvellous suite is the very embodiment of the Henrik Ibsen's unparalelled work of fantasy. The music is more than an accompaniment to the play, it is essential to a successful performance, enabling both the actors and the audience alike to become completely absorbed by Ibsen's stunning world.

Good overall, leaves out too many important parts 16 Oct 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Much better than any recording that just features the Peer Gynt suites, here we have a few more movements with the beautiful voice of Lucia Popp and an okay chorus. Marriner conducts very well, even if he doesn't give it the big sound that you would get with a more Romantic oriented conductor, the ASMF being associated more with Mozart and Handel. Popp sounds a little too loud in comparison to the orchestra, her voice was too forwardly placed in the recording. The chorus could have been better, but I'm being picky. Overall, this is a good performance and a big improvement for anyone who just has the two orchestral suites. The choral and vocal parts are wonderful and vital to the overall effect. While the Tate recording has more selections, this is a better performance.(Y)ou won't be disappointed by this CD, but it will make you hungry for more selections from Peer Gynt.

This excellent recording shows why "In the Hall of the Mountain Kings" has become so well known. A powerful performance of a great composition.
