2.0 out of 5 stars A little too obvious, 18 Mar 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Peep Show (Paperback)
I've never read any of Faith Bleasdale's books before and I'm afraid, on the strength of this, I won't be reading any more.
I usually avoid putting poor reviews on Amazon, generally feeling moved to write a review only by a book that has moved me, but since all the reviews of this book seem to be excellent, I thought I should post one here to warn you that actually, Peep Show really isn't very good.
Peep Show is poor chick-lit. The story line is far-fetched and unconvincing - a lot, and I mean one hell of a lot, of artistic licence has gone into this. Just the whole premise - a big hollywood film studio give mega bucks to a block who has never directed a movie before, to direct a movie that has to be kept so secret that even said studio aren't allowed to know what it's about - is just ridiculous. Said bloke subsequently decides that filming a bunch of no-hopers who share a house in London will make a great movie and, of course, it does. No surprises there then.
I think my biggest problem with this book, however, is the author's need to make everything so obvious. Nothing is left to the reader's imagination - at times it felt like I was reading a children's book.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate this book and I have read worse, but it really is a bit insulting to the old intelligence. If you're looking for good click-lit, then check out Sophie Kinsella - there's no comparison.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reality reading with a heart, 30 Mar 2003

When I bought this book, I initially believed it would be yet another fly on the wall read with as much .... scandal as the author could fit into a paperback. How wrong can I be. This book made me laugh and cry with the characters and like any good book should it left me wanting more and I was actually disappointed with myself for finishing it so quickly! A brilliant read I'd recommend to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars A sneak peep into the world of films and betrayal, 3 Feb 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Peep Show (Paperback)
This is the story of a moral dilemma - Would you betray the privacy of your friends for a chance at the big time?
Tanya , a television producer, faces this problem when she is introduced to Harvey , a big time LA producer, who asks her if she would oversee the filming of a reality film set in her house.
Tanya feels slightly guilty about betraying her housemates , romantic Gus ,loopy Leigh ,internet addict David and Eric who is always high on canabis but swallows her guilt and soon helps to engineer situations to make the film more interesting.
She doesn't count on falling in love and the problems this will cause, and what will her housemates think when they see the film?
Faith Bleasdale writes so that you get to know the characters and ,like reality tv, you start to hope that things will work out well for them.
If you get addicted to Big Brother , Survivor or any of the other reality shows than this book will be a winner for you.
I couldn't puit it down because I really wanted to see how everyones lives worked out.
