Book Description

Book three in Joe Nobody's popular series continues the saga of Bishop and Terri, as their post-apocalyptic world attempts to recover. Caught up in a power struggle to lead the recovery, the young couple are drawn away from their West Texas retreat and must use all of their skills to survive. The year is 2015 and the government of the United States has all but ceased to exist. The military controls some of the larger cities, but its loyalties are divided between the President of the United States and a new, growing organization called The Independents. The Holding Their Own series, by bestselling author Joe Nobody, follows the adventures of a young couple as they survive in a world where anarchy prevails and society struggles to establish rule of law. In Pedestals of Ash, the third book in the series, Bishop and Terri are pulled away from their secluded retreat and thrust into the power struggle to rule.

    5.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner.... 2 Mar. 2013

Once you start reading this book, it's difficult to stop. Comparatively few people are real experts in the subject of their choice and comparatively few people make good novelists. This "Joe Nobody" manages to be both.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best yet... 24 Sept. 2012

Holding Their Own III: Pedestals of Ash has amounted to the very best of Joe Nobody's HTO series. The series seems To evolve with each new book, and HTO3 is no exception. The first of the series focuses the most closely on Bishop and Terri, their "escape" from society's collapse forming the plot line and indulging in the development of the central characters. The everlasting process of survival and security is their largest problem, and the reader gets a feel for the dynamics of their tight-knit relationship. The second HTO is where the reader starts to see the author intends to take the story further than most disaster/survival tales and introduces the bigger players (Independents, Feds, Alpha conflict, importance of Meraton).

However HTO2 just sets the stage for HTO3, which ups the ante on the scale of battles and delivers on the anticipation built up in its prequel. Bishop's role takes on an importance of national scale, Terri's character sees an independence not before shown while she's in Bishop's absence, and the big players finally meet in an epic struggle that had me hooked beginning to end. JN delves pretty deep into the warriors mindset in his third novel, trying to justify the enormous amount of blood some characters spill for "their side."

All in all, it would be a huge mistake to have read the first two HTOs and not read this one. If you haven't read the first two, I'd certainly recommend you do before reading this one.

Good work, Joe. I look forward to HTO4!

This book continues the fast paced action as Bishop and Terri fight to survive and rebuild our country. It ties together some loose ends and introduces some new characters. As usual, a lot of action and twists as the story line progresses. Good plot and sub plots keep popping up. A great read! The only problem with Joes's books is that now I want the next one. When will it be out Joe?

I just finished reading the first 3 books of this series on my Kindle. While I am no expert, in my opinion there are to many editing issues for the price. Examples: cavalry is repeatedly spelled calvary, chest instead of chess, board instead of broad.. I found it to be very distracting. I have come to expect this in .99 cent books, but not in ones I pay good money for. That said, I did keep spending my good money on them to see what happened

    5.0 out of 5 stars ~~Humvee One~~ 13 Jan. 2014
By Chief, USN Ret...VT Town - Published on

The depiction of several different types of battle scenes is incredible. The battle on Scott's Hill has an intensity in it which leaves the reader wondering if there are any survivors left. A quote about battle that I thought was pertinent: "Few can describe it, and none will ever forget it" rings true. The one on Fort Bliss was in close quarters and a narrow escape that almost didn't happen. And, Deacon Brown's congregation (with the help of a few outsiders) put up a courageous fight against Smokey and the Cons.

Bishop and the President in Humvee One made me laugh! The President learns a lot about people during his rough ride with Bishop and he also learns that people must have hope in order to survive.

Bishop's sense of humor always makes me chuckle but his statement about trying to save a nutrition bar for Terri was really over the top... Oh, what love between the two of them!

One thing that was mentioned in this book is that part of the deterioration in society could be blamed on the dependency of the population on prescriptions, drugs and alcohol. Take those items away and a large portion of the society will be in serious trouble. Toss in the lack of food and security and people are ready to riot.

    Most highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it.. 12 April 2013

I was starting to feel a bit disappointed towards the end of the book, afterall I like my TSHTF books to have three phases the first being a collapse, the second any fighting and the third being reconstruction.

With the first two phases being satisfied it looked like the series was ending at that point without going onto reconstruction which was going to result in a 4 star UNTIL i read the final page which said there was going to be a Book 4 much to my delight.

Well worth the money, you will not be disappointed with this series, the amount of 5 & 4 stars each book has received is well justified and a good reflection of the books quality.

Roll on Book 4 (soon hopefully!).
