Covenanters-Faithful unto Death, 17 Nov 2007
This review is from: Peden: Prophet of the Covenant (Paperback)
I have known Robert since the summer of 1964 and he has always been very clear and honest in all his communications. This book is no exception to that standard and is a very welcome addition to our knowledge of the Covenanters and the history of these troubled times in our fair Scotland.Indeed our present freedoms in Scotland in the way we live and worship now were hard fought for by these stalwarts of the faith, men and women both who very often paid with their lives for their beliefs. We owe Robert a debt of gratitude for bringing to the fore such men as Alexander Peden who featured prominently in many a Covenanting adventure. There are many women too, sung and unsung heroes who were no less courageous who also paid the ultimate penalty in losing their earthly lives for their stance against oppression. By publishing this book Robert has by the grace of God illumined our age and enlightened our inderstanding.I praise God for this book.

A novel written by an expert, 18 Oct 2006
This review is from: Peden: Prophet of the Covenant (Paperback)
Having worked with the author in his teaching career, I can vouch for the fact that he is a true expert on the history of the Covenanters. This novel brings to life a fascinating period of Scottish history.

Invaluable history, 9 Aug 2010
This review is from: Peden: Prophet of the Covenant (Paperback)
A beautifully written book that bring Alexander Peden fully to life.
I have the 1983 edition that I Googled and purchased from a 'rare books' shop in scotland a few years ago and which I have only just gotten around to reading. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I was brought up on stories of 'Sandy' Peden told by my late father, who was proud to be of the same blood, and it is only now (almost fifty years later) having read this book that I have been able to give those stories a deeper and truer context.
I realise that because of the family bloodline anything I say here will be coloured by my origins, but I cannot disassociate myself from the pride I feel for my historical connections.
Trying as hard as I can to be objective I would say that purely as a historical reference and as a piece of writing I feel this book is both an invaluable record and a delightful read.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wishes to know more about the Covenanters in general and Sandy Peden in particular.
Thank you Robert Watson for caring enough to bring Sandy back to us.
