Book Description

19 Sep 2002 National Trail Guides
The Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast path form the 93-mile (149km) National Trail that starts at Knettishall, amid the forest-strewn borders of Norfolk and Suffolk, and ends at Cromer on north Norfolk's Heritage Coast. Following the Countryside Agency's acom waymarks, you can trace the route of the Roman road that the Peddars Way follows and enjoy the fine nature reserves along the coast. This is the complete official guide for the long-distance walk or the weekend stroller. All you need is this one book. It contains: - the entire route split into convenient sections - 1:25 000 Ordnance Survey maps for each section, marked with points of special interest - circular routes off the trail for shorter walks, enabling the walker to explore the local area - route information on each section, with colour photographs and notes on nearby features - background information on local history, wildlife, archaeology, geology, industry and land use - details of public transport, villages on or near the route with facilities for walkers, useful organisations and sources of further information on accommodation - the Countryside Access Charter on your rights and responsibilities when out in the countryside

4.0 out of 5 stars Thumbs up 18 Feb 2004
Format:Paperback
This book is all anyone needs for undetaking the Peddars Way and Norfolk coastal path. It has clear 1:25,000 maps with the route highlighted and guides you through the trail with words. It also manages to give a insight into the Roman History of the area and some geology also. However the trail is unbelieveably well signed posted and a 1:50,000 map with some common sense would see you along the trail safely. The book is a handy size to carry and to an extent good for planning. It does give you numbers and addresses which may be useful to whose booking accomodation and transport but i feel more energy should of been placed into this section. The book is certainly worthy of any National trail guide and is the only guide available for this walk to my knowledge.

5.0 out of 5 stars all you need to know, and more. 30 April 2011

having decided to run the whole of the trail in a day, i was looking for a clear guide which would be easy to understand with clear mapping. this guide fits the bill. detailed descriptions of any potentially tricky bits are given which will ensure you don't take a wrong turn. plenty of extra info in the guide too regarding places of interest, local history etc.
saying all that, the trail is so clearly marked with the familiar acorn symbol throughout, i only reffered to the guide when i wanted to know how far away i was from a particular place. you can walk the trail without a guide easily but this comprehensive guide gives you all those other interesting nuggets which i enjoyed reading in my B&B after 46+ miles of running. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Peddars way 14 Jun 2010
Format:Paperback
I bought this as I intended to walk the Peddars Way in sections. Helpful ordanance survey maps are included in the book, but it would be sensible to have a complete map as well. The colour photographs show nearby features and the landscape. There are sections on planning, safety, equipment tips, weather, accommodation and public transport, and in addition the all important waymarks, which show the route. This is a handy accompaniment to walking a long distance route. It is small and sturdy enough to fit in a pocket.
