Pebblegogy will help tutors and learning designers create engaging learning activities that will support and extend their curricula. It is an accessible, practical book that provides a good overview of PebblePad and the pedagogical approaches that underpin the design of the personal learning space. What is PebblePad? PebblePad is a personal learning space that supports and celebrates personal learning whilst providing a powerful suite of tools to support learning in institutional contexts. The idea was first imagined at the beginning of 2004 and the first reflective entries were made in September of that same year by learners at the University of Wolverhampton. Time has rolled on and PebblePad has been developed, enhanced and rolled out to over 100 organisations and around half a million users. It is a testament to the vision and mission of the (mainly) young development team that PebblePad has stayed true to its original principles, whilst undergoing major enhancements to its tools and functions. What is Pebblegogy? In some respects nothing more than a fabrication; a word conjured up to suggest that there are certain pedagogies promoted, reinforced or even awakened in PebblePad and which are unique to it. And yet, as you read this book you will notice that, whilst the word is a fanciful construct, PebblePad does spring from a clearly discernable pedagogical foundation and when its underpinning principles align with the right actors and the right conditions it has the potential for truly transformative learning and teaching. Pebblegogy is dedicated to the teachers, tutors, trainers and designers who have had the courage to explore the pedagogical benefits of this strange new breed of learning technology. Many of these Paddlers have contributed freely and enthusiastically to the activities in this book, making Pebblegogy a book that is firmly rooted in the realities of teaching practice and essential reading for those keen to use PebblePad with their learners.
