Product Description

Product Description

Pearson's "Canal Companions" have achieved cult status with canal users of all kinds. These lively, colourful and committed books are generally regarded as the most detailed, informative and down-right entertaining guides to the inland waterways. Each of the nine titles in the series covers a popular route or area with large scale and highly detailed maps accompanied by a wide ranging commentary, descriptions of waterside towns and villages, and itemised listings on eating and drinking, shopping, visitor centres, public transport and boating facilities. Of particular use to walkers and cyclists is the classification of towpath conditions into three grades. Considerable coverage is given to items of industrial archaeological interest. The Cheshire Ring canal network includes Ashton & Peak Forest Canals; Bridgewater Canal; Leeds & Liverpool Canal; Macclesfield Canal; Ribble Link; Rochdale Canal; Trent & Mersey Canal; and, Weaver Navigation. This is the 2009, 9th edition.

This book was very helpful for our Canal boat holiday. It gave us ideas of things to do on the journey, the information was accurate and it was interesting reading the commentary with each map, as there were the odd 'personal' comments that were worth looking out for

CAnal guide 14 Jan 2011

Went round the Cheshire ring with this in summer 2010, a great book, lots of ideas on managing the canals, good pub and shop guides. Essential if you want to hire a canal boat, the stuff that the hire companies supply is not enough .
