First Sentence
Danny Walker could still smell the sweet scent of the pine wood where Rafe McCawley had bored two holes through the nail keg and run a rope between them, to tie around their waists like a seat belt. Read the first page

I started reading this book and didn't put it down! I always wanted to know what happened next. Each chapter never fails to leave you smiling, excitied or crying! The main plot of the attack leaves you wanting to read on, the sub-plot of Danny(josh hartnett)Rafe(ben affleck)and Evelyn(kate beckinsale)leaves you with a feeling of emotion. Randall Wallace is a brilliant writer, he makes you feel things with his powerful words he uses to describe things, you can almost feel it. An excellent book that matches well with the film. I would recomend this to anyone.

I was dreading finishing this book after a couple of pages. It reminded me at first of Enid Blyton at her very worst - insipid, and with far too much emphasis on telling us everything the characters are feeling without giving our imagination free rein. And then, without changing in style at all, you find you're hooked. The characters are believable. And you care about what happens to them

3.0 out of 5 stars Deeper than the film 7 Jun 2001
Format:Paperback
This movie tie in by the man who wrote the screenplay for Braveheart is an interesting cross over from the script. Altough being deeper than the film, the book lacks the panoramic effects of the film's attack on Pearl Harbour but compensates by looking to the characters and their emotions. More depth is given to the characters of Evelyn,Danny and Rafe which the film lacks. Not really a one for literature buffs but an enjoyable read for the beach or next to the fire.
