The Shaker Abecdarius 30 Oct 2011
Format:Hardcover
I ordered a copy of the Abecedarius which is out of print because I wanted to give my copy to my nephew and his wife for their new born son. The replacement copy I ordered was a hardback copy in good condition. It had obviously been bought as a present for a child as it had a dedication at the front, but I was very happy with what I received. It was delivered very promptly.

I purchased this for myself and others for the magnificent pictures - although the abecedarius of animals for Shaker kids is fun too. It has a wonderful rythm, in spite of the bizarre choice of animals: did children really learn about the Katydid, Ichneumon,or basilisk? But the pictures are such a treat that I recommend this booklet for children and adults alike. Where else would you find an Ox with such soft eyes, an Alligator carrying a vase of flowers, or a Shaker mum using a washing-line held up by the Ibex and Rhinoceros.

Beautiful, whimsical alphabet book 27 April 2000
By "queenbe33" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Delicate and detailed illustrations with old fashioned looking pictures this book is based on a traditional Shaker abc rhyme of animal names. The illustrations are playful and you can tell the artists had fun illustrating this book. The book introduces unusual animals names like xanthos, ocelot, angleworm and ichneumon. Fun book to share with your children.

My 1 year old LOVES this book! It's great fun for him to learn animal names. He loves the rhyme and rhythm, and we both love the illustrations.
Classic Work 18 Jan 2011
By Colette Malik - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is a classic work of the Provensens. Although I am unfamiliar with the reason for the choice of included words (not always alphabetical, not always relevant), the now out of print picture book is beautifully illustrated by Richard Meran Barsan, a pleasure for the eyes, and a fun book for those 4,5,or 6 years old.
