PEACE WARRIOR

It’s the mid-21st century when Sergeant First Class Grant Justice is killed during an ambush on an enemy tank column.

Six hundred years later, his body is retrieved from the frozen, arctic lake where he perished. Re-animated by a team of scientists, Grant awakens to a civilization that has abolished war. A civilization that has outlawed violence and cherishes Peace above all else. A civilization that has been enslaved by an alien race called the Minith.

Grant is humankind’s final hope against the alien menace. He must be the... Peace Warrior.

A great page-turner 7 Sep 2011
By MaxJEF
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This turned up in my 'recommendations list' when I logged into kindle books. I thought the price and previous reviews were positive so I bought it. I have to say that the story gripped me pretty much from the start (although the injuries sustained whilst the main character remained concious and mobile need a pinch of salt).
This was one of those books that I enjoyed so much I didn't really want it to end. Only one trouble for me; the alien race the Minith sound like the Grinch with anger issues!
Seriously, if you like action sci/fi I think you'll enjoy this.

Piece meal 29 Jan 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
For a debut novel, this is not too bad. The characters are simplistic, the plot similar to both the movie 'Demolition man' and the excellent "The Course of Empire", and the overall pacing is uneven especially in the middle.
However, the author has put together an acceptable SciFi boys-own type space-opera complete with evil one-dimensional unredeemable villains which kept this reader's interest, with elements of humour thrown in. It is written in a style that reminds me of the earthier Piers Anthony works. Overall, great kindle price - fair read.

Freedom Isn't Free 8 Dec 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
In his debut novel, Steve Hawk has penned another classic confirmation that Freedom isn't Free. On an earth that has evolved to the point of total peace and harmony, war has been eliminated. In fact minor violence, i.e. profanity, can lead to a prison sentence. One's "attitude" is just as important as one's actions. Aggression is "violent" and compassion, gentle discussion and humble compliance, seen as "being at Peace," has become the norm.

But as has historically (at least on Earth) been proven, sooner or later someone will come along who has designs on obtaining what you possess; land, minerals, gold, or power. In Peace Warrior, it is an alien race from off-world.

Hawk has drawn some interesting parallels to human society, all the while keeping his protagonist in character. (To tell much more would spoil some of the story)

As I am also an author of political military thrillers, I read Hawk's book with a critical eye as well as that of a captured reader. If there is a common theme by readers about Indie authors, it revolves around their inability (or unwillingness) to professionally edit their manuscripts before publication. Peace Warrior is one of the best edited Indie novels I have read this year. It is not flawless, (and I have never read a book that is, regardless which NY publishing house produced it) but there are no errors that detract from the story or make the reader review a few pages to understand the plot.

Well done, Mr. Hawk. Look forward to the return of the Minith and Earth's resurgence of strength and honor.

Decent read - more than a little derivative
For a first novel this was reasonably well written and constructed - albeit with somewhat 2-dimensional characters as other reviewers have pointed out. Read more
