This has a reputation of being one of Big Country's weakest albums, it was apparently not well recieved back in 1988 when it was released. So I came to this with low expectations.
How pleasantly surprised I was to discover that this was excellent, at least as good as BC's previous three albums.

The highlights of this album in my view are the anthemic rock tracks 'King of Emotion' (the opening track) 'River of Hope' and the catchy 'Time For Leaving'. This also has two beautiful ballads, the atmospheric 'Everything I Need' and the heartfelt and genuinely moving 'In This Place', which in my view should be considered one of Big Country's finest songs.

If the negative publicity has put you off this album, take no notice, this well worth listening to.

This does have a different sound to BC's other albums, but that does not detract from the excellent songs and songwriting.

Any music by one of my favorite bands ever I have to buy. I already had an import version of this CD but I had to buy this one. The 2nd CD has one of my favorite songs of Big Country ever. You Lose Your Dreams is a masterpiece, both in song writing and musicianship. The way Stuart Adamson and Bruce Watson play guitars on this song is incredible. I have to listen to this song multiple times. The whole CD is a great addition to anyone who wants fine music!

The first band I saw live were Big Country on the Seer tour. I was hooked. They are my favorite band by far. This is Big Country's best work. I have never grown tired of listening to this album. Stuart Adamson shows how versatile BC were on this album. Every tack is pure quality, ranging from rock to ballads to maybe a hint of folk rock. Majic Rat really says it all.

As a Big Country fan I had this album years ago on vinyl but could never find 'Everything I Need' as a standalone album track on Youtube so bought the digital version to update my music collection. Good as ever!

I love Big Country, but for some reason I can only really musically understand their first four albums. I bought this to add to my small collection, so now I have the first four albums all of them the 1996 Digitally Remastered versions with the extra four tracks.

As for the music; "13 Valleys" is a must-have classic with a lovely ending, "I Could Be Happy Here" is one of my all-time favourite Big Country songs, "Peace In Our Time" is a great song with amazing guitar work, "Starred and Crossed" is good fun and "From Here To Eternity" has a really brilliant and catchy melody. Literally all of the others are quality tracks, no fillers here.
