Humour is not normally associated with crime novels and more's the pity. The characters of Tam and Fizz spark off each other making the reader thrill to their animosity, frustation and (let's face it) downright sexual attraction as the two legal bloodhounds track down the whodunnits of the plot. Set in the evocative City of Edinburgh, this blows the socks off anything that Rebus and Rankin have ever done.

I hadn't read anything by Joyce Holms before this and I really enjoyed it! Clever, skilful writing and a slick plot left me - for once - unaware of who the murderer might be. Of course when it all came out, it was obvious.
I would recommend this one and am looking forward to finding more Fizz and Buchanan novels from this author, whom I did know is one of Scotland's foremost writers. Apparently there's at last three more!
