PAWNBROKER is well written, easy to read and basically a top-notch thriller. The title character is Gray Bolton, an everyday man looking after his family and business who is unwittingly propelled into a deadly struggle against some powerful bad guys who will do anything to get something back from him. Suffice to say, the "something" is creepy, dangerous and extremely valuable. Fast-paced, with exciting twists and turns and a good sense of the Mississippi setting, I was hooked straight away by the sinister prologue and stayed hooked until the epilogue, which I thought was a nice touch. I found this novel "unputdownable" and devoured it in three sittings. Highly recommended, and I hope for more titles from the author.
