An excellent introduction to "Romans" for anyoe with an academic, devotional, socio-historic,or just general interest in the topic. In the first section Ziesler provides a comprehensive introduction to the epistle that covers such areas as,understandings as to why the letter was written at all, the controversy as to whom it was written, how it might incorporate Paul's theology, social factors pertaining at the time of writing, debate as to the original content etc.etc. Resumes of theories of noted scholars such as W. Moore and J.C. O'Neill are also given. Ziesler also provides extensive footnotes that direct the reader to other useful works on the particular areas of interet. All this in the first fifty pages! The commentary That follows, (300 pages) offers an inclusive insight as to how "Romans" has been read in the past, complemented with Zieslers own analysis and observations on the text. An excellent and accessible read.

My most used Romans commentary 19 Mar. 2006
By M. C. Crammer - Published on
Format: Hardcover
I have several Romans commentaries and find this one the one that I turn to for sermon preparation. It's both scholarly and readable, very useful for someone wanting to understand Romans better who doesn't want a very dense book. It manages to be scholarly and readable at the same time and is well organized and thorough in covering each verse.
