Product Description

'Everything you know is wrong' - this was the message to the world that Paula Yates posted above her doorbell. Once upon a time, a rock god met a brainy bombshell TV presenter who was married to a media 'saint'. When their lives collided, the events that unfolded were too bizarre even for fiction; the very public seduction and intense love affair, the fights, the drugs bust, heartbreaking custody battles, financial deals and the deaths of Paula and Michael were front-page news for months. But the vital facts of the web the lovers wove together were kept secret, and the reasons for their deaths were never clear, even to their family and friends. Only one person was there to witness every aspect of the story - Gerry Agar. A former publicist and Paula's long-term friend, Gerry's life, both personal and professional, became inextricably tied to those of the star-crossed lovers, and to the one who would be left behind. This is the stuff of modern legend; a red-blooded tragedy played out in the merciless glare of the media spotlight. Now - five years after Paula's death, on the eve of INXS's comeback, and the twentieth anniversary of Bob's Live Aid triumph - here are the facts, divulged in painful and deeply moving detail, and told with an intimacy that could only be disclosed by one caught in the centre of the storm. Published for the first time in paperback, this is Gerry Agar's story of Paula, Michael & Bob.

A sense of dejavue will overcome you when reading this book, if you have already read any other biography of Michael, Paula or Bob, i expect this was hastily put together from a little inside knowledge a whole lot of cutting and pasting, to gain a few quid.

This book is an incredible read, about a gifted and intelligent woman, Paula Yates who from her childhood seemed to suffer from lonliness and a desperate need to be loved!
Her marriage to a controlling self absorbed Geldof, was replaced by a drug addicted serial womaniser. These two men claimed to totally adore and love her dearly, however I don't think she ever found the love she really craved. She spiralled out of control into an opiate fantasy world that Hutchence existed in, just to be a part of his life! Her legacy leaves 4 beautiful Daughters, who can carry her memory forward.

This book is well crafted by Gerry Agar.

Is this book worth reading? Yes, I found it very entertaining and enjoyable but from about two chapters in I accepted that I was probably reading a complete work of fiction. I could enjoy it on that level but I guess it is not as easy for the families of the people who are left behind to view Agar's writing that dispassionately.

Agar comes across as being exitable, sometimes hysterical and this book definitely comes across as being a money grubbing attempt to profit from two tragic deaths.

In all, I would say that if you can accept this is mainly fiction it' a good read. But get it out of the library and don't line Agar's grubby pockets.

I was quite a fan of Paula's, especially for her looks and style, also for her writing. I know Bob Geldof is very private but I do wonder if maybe it's time for one of her friends or someone who knew her well to write a biography to rebut all the lies that have been told about her since she died. The tenth anniversary of her death is coming up and I hope someone will.

Avoid
Save the money and avoid this book, just a bunch of gossip for the morbids. Just one of the many attempts to raise money out of the private lives of famous people.
