5.0 out of 5 stars Paul Weller on top form and on DVD,great stuff! 10 Jun 2009
Format:DVD
First I'm a huge PW fan, from The Jam,through Style Council, and through his solo albums ,his live shows he's one of the most original and talented rock artists of all time. This tremendous set shows why. This is superbly filmed by the Beeb (what else would you expect).Looks good sounds great, and above all PW whether doing material from the new album (then) or reworking other well known songs produces a fresh approach throughout. The band lead by surely one of Britain's finest guitarists Steve Craddock (Ocean Colour Scene) along with the others in Paul's new band really as said bring a new vibe to the songs, and guests like Little Barry and especially the wonderful fiddle playing of Eliza Carthy (just listen to Wild Wood) continues this wonderful recording.Add to that strings and a brass section and you have 90 mins. of Weller magic. But there's more great extras on the DVD plus great photos in the hardcover book style of the presentation box itself. If that's not enough an hour of the set at Brixton in November last year on CD.This is a truly stunning set for any true PW fan,but will be welcomed surely by any music lover that's ever listened to him.Shame you can't give more than 5 stars because this wonderful set is worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dreamtime 9 July 2009
Format:DVD
The half century has been more than kind to Mr Weller. In this well produced collection of full length BBC4 concert, with an array of guest appearances, to rehearsal footage, videos and a one to one interview with the man himself, this is an excellent DVD for any fan and more. Weller is in fine voice and the tightness of the new band, with the silky fingers of Steve Craddock still to the fore, has allowed this DVD to capture the full soulful power and pounding relevance of Weller as Britain's outstanding songwriter and performer. The energy and the transcendence one fells from the floorboards up when at a Weller gig is caught here. The great thing is that it is not a dream. As ever Weller keeps it real!

5.0 out of 5 stars "What a catalyst you turned out to be..." 9 Aug 2009
Format:DVD
The Modfather turned 50 in 2008. And for any Paul Weller fan looking for a fitting way to acknowledge that milestone, here it is. JUST A DREAM: 22 DREAMS LIVE is an attractively presented hardback bookcase that captures some of the highlights of Weller's resurgent year, which saw the release and multiple tours in support of the album 22 DREAMS. Before getting to the DVD/CD combo there are 36 pages of photos by Lawrence Watson showing Weller and his band in backstage moments, in rehearsals and during live performances. Good stuff.

The DVD includes:

- A Live BBC 4 Session recorded in front of a smallish but enthusiastic crowd that features 21 songs and close to 90 minutes of footage. Weller's band includes Steve Cradock on guitar, Andy Lewis on bass, Andy Crofts on keyboards and Steve Pilgrim on drums (Steve White is "taking time off" from gigging and recording with Weller.) There are also a string section, a brass section and a few special guests, including Little Barrie, Graham Coxon (Blur), Gem Archer (Oasis) and the violinist Eliza Carthy who plays on two tracks. It's a very good show. 11 of the 21 songs Weller performs are from 22 DREAMS, but we also dip back into the songbook for such classics as "The Butterfly Collector" and "The Eton Rifles." There's only one weak song in the set, and that's "Echoes Round the Sun," the song Weller co-wrote with Noel Gallagher. Weller ribs the audience for not cheering loud enough when Gem Archer comes to the stage and after that things get thrown off. The crowd cheers again, but just as weakly. The vocals (as they do on the album) have trouble rising above the instrumentation and at one point Weller sets the microphone swaying, which gives the words even less chance to get heard.
