Product Description

Product Description

The great radio detective lives again in a brand new reading by Anthony Head Crime novelist and detective Paul Temple and his glamorous wife Steve made their first appearance on BBC Radio in 1938. They inhabited a sophisticated world of chilled cocktails and fast cars, where the women were chic and the men wore cravats - a world where Sir Graham Forbes, of Scotland Yard, usually needed Paul Temple's help with his latest tricky case. The radio serials proved so popular that Francis Durbridge was inspired to write a succession of novels featuring the smooth sleuth. In this compelling story, read by Buffy and Little Britain star Anthony Head, Paul and Steve investigate an intriguing case of robbery and murder. Making their getaway after raiding Harkdale bank, a gang of thieves are surprised by the police and a car chase ensues. When the robbers' car crashes, killing two of them, the police go to retrieve the money, but it is not there. They trace it to an accomplice, Gavin Renson, but then he is found dead in the garage of Paul's country cottage. Shortly before the gruesome discovery, Paul and Steve had given a lift to a beautiful redhead, Betty Stanway, who overheard her boyfriend Desmond Blane plotting a robbery on the telephone. Is he the gang leader? Did he kill Renson? And if so, is Betty's life in danger? It is up to the Temples to unravel the complex mystery...

4.0 out of 5 stars By timothy, I'm afraid I'm a Paul Temple addict!, 29 Sep 2009

Ever since receiving my first Paul Temple MysteryNews of Paul Temple (BBC Audio) on the Amazon programme, I fear that I've been hooked! The first one I heard (News of Paul Temple) had me drive a one hour diversion in order to finish the story. The others, including this one, have kept me hooked!

Although the full cast stories are great, I have to say that I prefer the ones read by Anthony Head - as this one is. He is a gifted story teller, and the storie just roll out of his mouth as if they have been there all the time!

Well worth a go - but if you've not encountered these stories before, start with 'Send for Paul Temple'Send for Paul Temple (BBC Audio Crime) which is clearly the first of the books! It's a great one to begin with!

Enjoy!!!!

I still am!

3.0 out of 5 stars Paul is slipping, 16 May 2007

I first chanced upon the radio series while looking for a new audio book to listen to and found this series quite good but the stories are starting to get a little stale the last two have no mention of Sir Graham Forbes I hope that he reappears.

This story is not a great story it centres around a girl you is seeing a bank robber and possible murderer the story is bit slow no chase or action.
If you want a good Paul Temple story any of the radio programmes are good if you haven't got them all already.

Plus Isis has a good story of Paul called The Madison Case but is you are a Paul Fan you should get this for your collection

All Francis Durbridge Novels, relating to Paul Temple, enacted by the BBC players and books read by various people are fantastic and I would be pleased to lay my hands on the complete series.

Another series that I am collecting is the Margery Allingham Mysteries with Albert campion.

I would give them a 5 * rating.
