Best of the solos. 17 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Paul's solo album has always been my favourite of the four 1978 KISS solo releases. (Followed by Peter's, Gene's and Ace's, as far as I'm concerned.) There's something truly special about this superb album, for it features two of the best songs he's ever written (and he's written quite a few masterpieces in his career); "Tonight You Belong To Me" and "Take Me Away (Together As One)". If you're a rock fan, you owe it to yourself to have this CD in your collection, if only to hear these two brilliant semi-ballads. -They've haunted me for more than 20 years, and they're likely to have the same effect on you. There are a couple of straight rockers as well, like "Move On" and "It's Alright", and a very beautiful soft ballad with strings your mum and sister will enjoy the most; "Hold Me, Touch Me". All KISS fans have this album, now it's time for the rest of the world to discover its brilliance.

When the four members of KISS disbanded to record solo albums in 1978, it was expected that Paul Stanley's would be the pick of the bunch and it was at worst the second best of the four.

The album is also the most unique in that it is the most KISS like. While Gene and Peter took the opportunity to showcase material not suitable for KISS and Ace showed talents few knew he possessed, Paul carried on where he had left off and where he would pick up.

The record gets off to a great start with Tonight you Belong to Me, which starts slowly before belting into a fantastic riff (a favoured tactic of the star child) which was repeated on the equally superb Take me Away Together as One. Other highlights include the heavier Wouldn't you Like to Know Me, Move on, and Love in Chains. There are no weak songs on the album at all, and with its stronger songs make it far superior to many in KISS' collection. The only downside is that apart from Move On, it was never performed live by KISS.

A really good record that shows that Paul was and is more than capable of being successful outside KISS (thankfully he always stayed with the band) and has me smacking my lips at the thought of his second solo album due out this October!
