5.0 out of 5 stars A well written book for anyone keen to improve their driving, 14 Jan 2003
Every day in the UK, 10 people loose their lives on the roads. The Transport Research Laboritory statistics tell us that 95% of these accidents are caused by driver error. It therefore makes sense to drive in such a way as to aim to avoid making the mistakes that cause accidents. This well written book will help any driver to do this by making them more aware of the hazards that drivers face every time they drive. The most important aspect of safe driving is driver attitude and this subject is dealt with in depth. The book contains information and contact details about further driving tuition which is a good thing to include as the reader may feel inspired enough to take their driving to the next level after reading this book.
This book would make a good companion to Roadcraft the Police Drivers manual.
Just one gripe - why was it that, in the list of contacts, the Institute of Advanced Motorists was present but the RoSPA Advanced Drivers Association was not mentioned. Both organisations are well run and do an excellent job so both should have been included.

2.0 out of 5 stars Out of Date Now, 4 Aug 2007
Sorry, but this is increasingly out of date now. The world has moved on from believing that EXPERT driving on public roads should be centred on physical car control. Even the L-test, which has the same focus, is rightly being seen as having the wrong view of safety. "Eyes and brain" ability is what drivers need to improve - it's all in the head. This book needs a significant update to include this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Special, 20 Feb 2005
This book harps on about defensive driving alot of the time, which was so boring as it taught me nothing extra as I read the DSA Driving the Essential Skills. This book was more useful to me as a novice come amateur.

The book however did have some useful chapters on advanced skills, although I feel the book could have been more explanatory than it was. These skills were only a small part of the book and personally I wouldn't recommend to buy this book. Check it out at you local library first!

A great book if it had been written 10 years ago, and then published. Read more
