I already have travel scrabble and the very old travel scrabble and when I saw this was out, I had to have it. The board is very large but is really sturdy and the tile racks and tiles are high quality and durable. There is a different coloured square in the board so you can play both 'normal' and 'super' scrabble. Its great with overlapping double word tiles so you can quadruple your score, as well as the new quadruple word tiles in each corner and quadruple letter scores makes it a very highscoring and competitive game! I highly recommend it.

Having spent many hours playing Scrabble in the past we bought this as a new challenge. It does boost the ego to get large scores and we recently had four seven letter words in 5 turns. It isn't a quick game, but the number of tiles means that you can still catch up after falling miles behind. Tactics are slightly different and you become less concerned about leaving triple words open because there are so many scoring opportunities. I was disappointed by the quality of the set, others have mentioned the folding board and not quite square letters, but it has already paid for itself in hours of entertainment. If we lose any tiles we will simply replace them from an old Original game. As for scoring we use the travel scrabble to keep score although with just two playing we often both go past the 799 maximum.

This is the fifth Scrabble set to be welcomed to my home after the pocket, travel, ordinary and de luxe editions. The concept of the expanded game is not original - three dimensional chess has been around for years - but this is a genuinely different game: you soon learn to race for the dizzying scores available in the extra zone e.g. slap QUIZZES across the two nearly adjacent double word scores, with the Q on the quadruple letter score, to rattle your opponents' racks with a shattering 306. I concur with Mr. Whitaker's views on the irritating design faults: the untippable board is a beast to clear of 200 tiles by hand. We just substituted the ugly plastic racks from previous sets to deal with the problem of tiles dropping off the ledges. I also feel that with a fairly expensive set of this number of pieces, the mislaying of one or two tiles down the years is inevitable: surely a handful of additional blanks could have been provided to replace such losses. Several designs of scoresheets can be downloaded from the Association of British Scrabble Players' website www.absp.org.uk. The website listed on the Super Scrabble box barely supports the game at all and the bland blue single score sheet with instructions to photocopy is hardly useful. Another scoring solution is to open an Excel spreadsheet on a nearby computer and save the weary business of adding up those huge scores. I enjoyed the retro, slightly uneven wooden tiles, though friends have pointed out that familiarity with their characteristics may lead to cheating! All in all, a great addition to the world of non-battery powered traditional board games.
