Tom Wright, also known as N.T.Wright, is the Church of England Bishop of Durham and a leading Bible scholar. He is going through the whole New Testament, providing his own translation of the Greek text, explaining the books for the average reader one by one. His style is easy going without ever being simplistic. He has a knack for being able to explain theological concepts in everyday language. He makes frequent use of little stories that make telling points

This is the second part of his exploration of Paul's letter to the Romans and it should be read after the first book which explains chapters 1 to 8.

Many readings of Romans make it sound like a two part book. Eight Chapters on salvation and five chapters on Christian living, with a three chapter commercial break on Israel in the middle. As Tom Wright has said, if you are reading it that way, you are reading it the wrong way. He reads the letter as being one continuous message from start to finish: about the uniting of Jews and Gentiles in the one family of God. How Jew and Gentile are united together is the subject of the early chapters, the letter then leads to a climax with a united Jewish and Gentile people praising God together in Chapter 15 verses 7 - 13. It is then topped off with Paul's great practical demonstration of unity. He is organising a collection from his churches, which have many members from gentile backgrounds, to take to the mainly Jewish background church in Jerusalem.

While Wright introduces the background to the letter in detail he is not content to give us a historical analysis and leave things there. This book is full of practical applications of the teaching of Romans for today. The vision of a united Church that lives seeing that all things are under God's rule is an inspiring one.

(Mathew, Mark, Luke, John, etc) --for Everyone 4 Oct. 2007

These study guides to New Testament books, written by N. T. Wright, are the best I have used in my daily bible studies. Bishop Wright has written many scholarly tomes, but he has written these commentaries for the ordinary layperson. He has a wonderful way of weaving in stories that make his commentaries easy to read, timely and relevant to the person who wants to get a more personal understanding from these New Testament books. I would recommend them without hesitation to the ordinary pew sitter.
Thank you N.T. for filling in the much needed gap!! 31 Aug. 2014

Everyone in the family loves the "Paul for Everyone" books by N.T. Wright.
They give the reader contextual information about what was going on at the time Paul wrote his letters.
N.T. is excellent at using descriptive examples that give the reader the understanding of Pauline thinking.
This information, pastors either are ignorant of themselves or don't feel is pertinent.
Unfortunately then, the vast majority of Evangelical Christians are essentially disconnected from the context and lives of their spiritual predecessors.
Thank you N.T. for filling in the much needed gap!!
Paul for Everyone Romans Part One 15 May 2012

Paul for Everyone by N.T. Wright is a wonderful book to help the layperson dive into the book of Romans and learn the great truths recorded within its pages. Part One takes a detailed look and the first eight chapters of Romans, and written in a manner that makes it easily understood without deminishing the meaning and exactness of Paul's letter to the Romans. I have purchased Romans Part One and Two for a class and am very satisfied with the material and how N.T. Wright explains things using the Bible and everyday situations to bring the passages to life.

N T Wright gives a new depth and clarity to scripture. He applies scripture to relevant modern illustrations without losing the true context of the material. I have found N T Wright's studies on Paul for Everyone to give me valuable information to use in teaching my small group (bible study) and writing a weekly devotion for Path Finding Ministries. As the title tells us, Paul for Everyone studies are for anyone, to be used in private study-devotions or for scholarly insight.
