Product Description

Product Description

This is TASCHEN's 25th anniversary - special edition! This title presents a revolutionary approach to spatial and visual values. Perhaps best known for his exceptional apples and pears, Paul Cezanne (1839-1906) was one of the founding fathers of modern art. Though he was underappreciated and highly criticized during his life, as time passed Cezanne's work came to be considered of inestimable importance. His method of experimentation with abstraction and perspective was an important precursor to modern painting, particularly cubism.

Excellent choice of pictures with the text straight to the point. Best part is real life situation -the artist while painting and passer by story - trying to 'correct' Cezanne. I really enyojed this book and many other Taschen published books.

I purchased this as a gift for Christmas last year.

The recipient was most pleased and enjoyed not only reading it from front to back but also viewing the prints inside. He appreciates art and definitely appreciated this copy.

This particular book ended up over in his house in France so it was a good purchase after all!

father of cubism 22 Oct 2009

I waited a long time before buying a more comprehensive book on Cezanne, and I am glad I waited. This book is beautifully photograped with large full page color works. Toward the end of his work you can really see why he has been called ...'The Father of Cubism'. His choppy landscapes lay down what must have been the idea for Picasso's first forest landscapes in a cubistic style.

Cezanne was born in 1839 and passed in 1906, but not after forcing himself to finish his last painting, even as he was very ill. I love it, an artist until the very end. He is just being recognized as one of the great artists of the 19th and 20th century. I love his use of colors and the confidance in his brush strokes. I must admit that I did not look into his work until I kept reading about the influence he had on other artists. It was then that I started to do research on his work. He has beautiful landscapes and perfect and charming still life work. One has to see impressionism in his work far before Monet and Manet, and others. He was doing impressionism in the 1800's.

The book I received was in perfect condition and wrapped and very inexpensive. I am very pleased as I believe I will learn more about the use of my colors. Great book at an amazingly inexpensive price. Have a go at it, I don't think you will be disappointed. artist... joe monroe
