Product Description

British sci-fi comedy written by and starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Two geeky Brits, Graeme Willy (Pegg) and Clive Gollings (Frost), are driving across the United States in a hired van to a comic book convention in San Diego. As they pass by Area 51, a military base known for multiple UFO sightings, they accidentally pick up an alien, Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen), and before long their quiet road trip has turned into an intergalactic adventure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loving the alien 26 Feb 2011
Format:DVD
Graham and Clive are two likeable English nerds who, after a visit to geek-Mecca Comic Con, take a road trip to America's infamous UFO hotspots. En route they encounter and hide Paul, a real, live "grey" alien, who's on the run from the US government, who've been hiding him for 50 years. With the FBI in hot pursuit, Graham and Clive's road trip becomes a race against time to get Paul to the rendezvous so his people can take him home.

There's a lot to like about Paul. The gags are numerous and funny, and while there's nothing particularly new or unpredictable here, it's all pulled off with such charm and energy that you can forgive the film its faults. Seth Rogen is great as the intergalactic stoner Paul, and Kristen Wiig is also good value as the Christian who discovers the joys of pot and swearing. And of course, Pegg and Frost do their usual schtick; and we love them for it.

It's nice to imagine that 50 years from now, people will probably talk fondly of the handful of good-hearted bromance/buddy films starring Pegg and Frost, and even though Paul lacks the darkness and manic intensity of the best of them (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) it's still a trip worth taking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Silly but funny 23 Jun 2011

A fine DVD to cheer you up. Very slap stick humour but that's predictable given the subject of the film. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost make a great team.

4.0 out of 5 stars ONE FOR US SCI FI FREAKS :) 15 Jun 2011
Format:DVD
This was a bit of a slow burner at first and after half an hour I was starting to wonder what all the fuss was about. But it turns out I needn't of worried as it was brilliant. Loads of in jokes, star wars, Aliens, star trek, Indy, Close Encounters, too many to name really. But it certainly isn't all about in jokes. The story centres around 2 geeky mates on a trip to the US to travel around all the sci fi sites when low and behold they bump into a reall alien. Paul was played excellently by Seth Rogan, the perfect match. The CG was top notch on him as well. There is nothing not to like about him, and part of me hopes they do a sequal, but another part of me worries about such ventures.

One of the bravest things about the movie is them tounching on Evolution and God, or lack there of a God. Bearing in mind this is really made for a US audience I think this might of upset some hard line christians. This make sme even happier haha. Great film only losing 1 star due to it's slow start. Defo one to watch and one to watch more than once :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Paul
A really entertaining and funny film. Paulis also my relative's name & now I regard the alien as his alter ego. The only downside was some language - is swearing necessary? Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny!
It's the story, not the CGI, but the CGI is so convincing it doesn't interrupt the flow the of the story. Read more
