Some may feel compelled to question the application of the facts in this book but it is nonetheless an extremely well put together, fact based, account of US history. I would not consider myself particularly conservative so was somewhat sceptical of this book to begin with. However, through their presentation, the authors have inspired me to consider their view as well as appreciate the fact that they obviously love a US which is inspired by personal responsibility and supported by the Constitution. As a UK citizen looking at the US from abroad, this book inspires an appreciation and respect and gives one an insight into what made America the country it was for most of the last century.

I was looking for a book to remove my ignorance of the USA's history and this book certainly does that! It takes you right from the initial colonisation by the West up to the modern day, all expertly researched and delivered with finess. This is a huge Shakespearean sized book, large enough to cause a hernia is you carry it for too long, but apart from that I have found this books lives up to its ambitious title. A definite recommendation from me.

I must admit I did not now much about US history before reading this. I was looking for a book that gave a complete overview and had not been tainted by revisionist and leftist historians and this was everything that I was looking for. It showed warts and all but it did not try to bash the US at every opportunity. If you are looking for just one book on US history this is the one. Despite it's size it is very easily read and will keep you enthralled. Great book
