5.0 out of 5 stars Fastest USB drive I've ever encountered 3 Oct 2011
This is an amazing drive. Don't be put off by its slightly uninspiring physical appearance - it's easily the fastest USB drive I've ever used.

I read a couple of reviews of this drive before purchasing, which said it has read speeds of around 100 MB/s and write speeds of 70 MB/s. I tested this claim with a disk benchmarking program called Atto, and the results showed that the drive really is that fast. This is just phenomenal for a USB drive - even a USB 3 drive, many of which average around 30 MB/s read & write times. Patriot's "Quad Channel technology" is clearly not just a gimmick. The drive's also faster than many USB 2 drives when plugged into a USB 2 port. Copying a 3.5GB file from my SSD to this drive over USB 3 took about 30 seconds.

Patriot are onto a winner here. Highly recommend this drive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very fast and reliable 22 April 2012

I bought this Patriot flash drive because I needed a reliable, fast and small memory stick. It cost more than other brands of USB 3.0 drives but because the performance was supposed to be so much better I stumped up my cash and bought one.

From the start I was impressed by its build quality and its performance. It was far faster than the other, smaller drives I had (mostly Sandisk branded) and fitted the bill nicely. However, a few months later I realised that I needed another USB drive of the same size and decided to try a different brand because of the difference in price and bought Transcend 32GB JetFlash 700 Super Speed USB 3.0 Flash Drive for around a third less cost. That claimed to have similar performance and indeed was also fast in practice. To compare I ran actual tests on them both by transferring my own data, and also by using a proper piece of testing software called ChkFlsh 1.16 and found that despite expectations the Transcend drive could not match the Patriot when it came to hard facts. I have copied the results from the ChkFlsh tests below - they are with NTFS formatting though I had similar results when formatted as FAT32. The tests were run several times on each unit and I have rounded the average result for ease of use.

Patriot Supersonic 32GB --- Read = 77MB/s & Write = 40MB/s

Transcend Jetflash 700 32GB --- Read = 62MB/s & Write = 30MB/s

Sandisk Cruzer Extreme 16GB USB 2.0 (my previous high speed drive for comparison) --- Read = 22MB/s & Write = 18MB/s

The figures clearly show that the USB 3.0 drives vastly outperform the USB 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Patriot USB 3 flash drive 32GB 3 July 2012

This flash drive looks alright, not the best looking flash drive I have seen on Amazon, but good enough. It's built very well as you would expect for the money and brand, and you do get what you pay for with electronics.

As for performance, when I transferred film it averaged 70-75 MB/sec (took 60 sec to send several gig), small files around 30-35MB/sec. Not super fast, but quick enough.

Not that worried as USB 2.0 you would be waiting a fair amount of time.

If you want a good, fast, USB 3 flash drive, then this isn't bad for the money, you do get a good deal, tenner less and the get the next best thing- Transcend 32GB JetFlash 700 Super Speed USB 3.0 Drive. If you want even faster then you are looking at £80-£90 for the Kingston Technology 64GB USB 3.0 DTHX Flash Drive, very fast and more memory.

Depends if you like to have lots of space @ fast speeds-then pay the extra, if just want something that works go for the cheaper option.

UPDATE 24/07/2013: Kingston Technology 64GB USB 3.0 DTHX Flash Drive is now even less (around £51+) so even better value per GB.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great technology, but.... 19 July 2012

OK so this flash drive is fast, very fast. I can't praise the speed of it enough, and that alone is probably reason to buy it. However whilst the boys in the Tech department were busy working their butts off to bring us this cutting edge velocity, their mates down the corridor in Design and Packaging were obviously out on a long lunch.

For starters the cap is so loose I very much doubt I will be it's owner for more than a few days. There is no keyring hole in the cap so I can secure it to my keyring, nor is there any way to link it to the main body of the drive.

Then we get to the keyring hole provided in the main body of the drive. Patriots engineers must have drilled it using a micron laser because quite simply it is so ridiculously small bacteria would struggle to get through it, let alone a keyring. I have tried the all the smallest keyrings I could find - even the free '1 loop' sort - and I still can't get one to fit. I'm left with using a bit of double looped strong cotton to attach it to my keys, and we all know how long that's going to last. Maybe the person that finds it in the street will be able to add to this review, telling us what the drive is like to own long-term?

In short, it's about time Patriot and other flash drive manufacturers took the mechanical design of their products as seriously as they do the technical aspects. Metaphorically Patriot have created a Maclaren F1 engine, and decided to fit it in Del-Boys 3 wheeler - whilst the results will leave all the competition standing at the lights, a hundred yards down the road bits will inevitably start to fall off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the price
Very quick and reliable, solid feel. I believe the only negative I can give this product is that you cannot hang it on a key ring as the hole is too small, beside that its perfect.
