Book Description

Sue Patrick's Workbox System User's Guide is a complete homeschooling guide providing an easy approach to optimize and organize your homeschool from Preschool to High School. Here you will find the tools you need to transform your classroom into an organized, well-structured learning environment. Easy to understand and implement, Sue Patrick's Workbox System User's Guide will enable you to gain control ofyour children's attention and focus, and help them grow in self-control and independence. In the few hours it takes to read this book, your days can become less stressful, more productive, and more enjoyable for everyone in the home. Excerpt from the book: "I believe it is our job to train up our children. Our children should become smart, sequential, forward thinking, self-drive, independent people. But I don't think they have to achieve it by themselves. Some of our children will never blossom into the individual who loves to learn. But at least they will have learned how to learn. Learning how to learn is one of the most important things we can teach our children. It is a first step many parents just assume that kids will have accomplished on their own. Some of them have not. We must start by giving our children their learning materials in a way that will make sense to them, so that they can learn. If we do it any other way, learning will be too hard and it will never be fun--nor will our job of training them be easy. "With this system, you and your children will move through your homeschool day more efficiently and with greater understanding than ever before. The way you teach will be fun for your children and more rewarding for you. You will be able to spend more time having fun with your children and less time on the "business" side of homeschooling. Once you have this system in place, you will truly wonder how you ever homeschooled without it."

5.0 out of 5 stars Workbox System User's Guide for Home Education 7 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is as far as I know only available on Kindle which is a shame I believe. It is easy to read and contains photos of the author's ideas and examples of school work that has been altered to suit an individual child's needs.

I will take her ideas into our HE adventure although her idea of 13 boxes or so is just not practical for us due to the fact that houses in the UK are a lot smaller than the average house in the US. Our kitchen table will be 'school'! Having said that I will adopt her ideas but adapt them, minus the treadmill she suggests to put the children on. I think we will just stick to the outdoors and their current chosen sports.

I also found it useful to learn that you can adapt work for your child should they struggle with something just by presenting things slightly differently or assessing whether too many new core skills are required for a particular work box and leaving some out. Perhaps this is obvious to most but to me it was a revelation;-) The author also gives some ideas on what to do if the parent is ill and how to manage a family with more than one child encouraging families to even have a workbox system for little ones from eighteen months!

The book claims this system will works for all kinds of families including families with teenagers and children with special needs. The author does warn that it requires organisation and disciplined, hard work from the parent to set up and maintain but promises a student who works mostly independently with a little help if required.

If you are thinking about using un-schooling style of HE then this book is NOT for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something that will give us order to our day 20 May 2012

Wasn't sure if I really needed this book as there was so much information out there already online. But she lays it out nicely and gives some great ideas as well that I had not see before. I had the Kindle version and the pictures were very clear but the caption for the pictures seemed to get mixed in with the rest of the text.

5.0 out of 5 stars Workbox System 29 Jan. 2013

This is a great system to use for teaching children. I bought this so I could understand the system to use with my children at home and can see applications for the regular classroom. It is a great program and Sue Patrick does a good job of detailing it and it's application to any situation.

Even though there are a lot of blogs with variations and explanations of the workbox system I appreciated reading the original story and setup of the system. The workbox system has already changed our homeschool to a much more organized day!

4.0 out of 5 stars A worthy investment for schooling-at-home families. 2 Jan. 2013

The concept is pretty simple. You probably do it in your own life. I call it "kits". However, it's worth buying and reading this to pick up the finer points of implementing the Workbox system. The book is geared towards homeschooler's, but cyber-schooler's can easily adapt and incorporate the concepts into their own workflow.

I mainly bought this for the "workbox" section, but there are lots of other great organizational and instructional ideas included.

A quick and easy read that can pay off immediately.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic...very helpful on many levels 19 July 2012

I have read a lot out there on Sue's system, but I am very thankful I read it firsthand in this book. She gives some fantastic help on helping kids learn...more than just explaining her system. The kindle version is a bit choppy with the text, but it's easy to figure out. Also, know that Sue honors the kindle version with her offer of free downloads (which are very useful).
