The definitive work in the field 18 Aug 2000

This volume summarizes the work of some of the nation's leading social scientists who spent a year and a half studying problem and pathological gambling. This even-handed presentation cuts through the myths and misconceptions surrounding this field and provides a welcome relief from the emotional rhetoric that often accompanies discussions of gambling disorders. The authors are extremely critical of much of the research done in this field and are particularly careful to remind the reader of what cannot be said given the current state of knowledge as well as what we do know. As with any field of study, research done since publication has already made some portions of this book outdated, but for anyone seriously interested in pathological gambling, this is the place to start.
